I was going to start a similar thread in the site discussion forum about this. Thanks for saving me the trouble.

Why isn't anything being done about the flooding of this forum with MJ threads? This sh!t is out of control.

I truly don't understand why his stans are here posting primarily about him... he has tons of fan sites dedicated to him. Why not go there? What was the attraction to prince.org?

All the loads and loads of musicians and singers and bands out there, and easily half the threads when I come in here are devoted to Mr. Jackson.

Yeah, I know. Some of you will bitch, why not start new threads about someone else? Why not, indeed.

Here's a few ideas for you, since you've all got your heads up Michael's ass, lately:

-Gustav Mahler: Nutty Mama's Boy, or genuine limp?
-Blondie: their debut album vs. Parallel lines
-Just how much did 8 Mile lift from Purple Rain?
-50 cent and the Game: Lover's Spat?
-Gush about your love for the Neverending Story song
-What's up with the sexuality in the Little Mermaid's Poor Unfortunate Souls?
-Jim Morrison's death conspiracy theories
-Sly Stone's (sorta) re-emergence
-The fact that Backstreet Boys have managed to stick around fourteen years in a genre with a shelf life of three.
-The Lyrics to Bowie's Thursday's Child
-Your favourite Monkee
-Who's more of a big girl, Robert Smith or Morrisey?
-Killer TV theme songs
-Grunge's saving or destroying of rock

Yeah, some of these topics are stupid, but they're something different at least. Give it a try, folks. You might find it fun. thumbs up!
I'd like to comment on how much 8 Mile lifted from Purple Rain. Not a whole lot, But I think that The Kid sure could've used a friend like Cheddar Bob.

In general, there always have been a disproportionately high number of Michael Jackson threads on this board. They typically all go down the same roads:

* Out-of-touch zealots who proclaim MJ is one of the greatest people ever to walk on the planet.

* An analysis of MJ's appearance in the 1970s vs. his current look -- including every MJ picture made over the past 30 years.

* A discussion into his mental state, based on marketing, sociological, racial and psychological deductions.

It would make sense for the moderator(s) to make a sticky on MJ and force people to conform (either post in that one thread or risk disciplinary action). However, the reason it continues is because the moderators allow it to continue (there's one moderator in particular who always is involving himself personally in threads but I haven't seen him do anything regarding these MJ threads).

[Edited 8/20/07 20:56pm]
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

To be honest, I would prefer the latter two topics that you have listed to be banned from this particular forum and be moved to "General Discussion" or "Politics and Religion." As for the first topic, it would be unfair to censor such comments regarding Michael Jackson since a number of Madonna, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey. etc. fans express similar sentiments about their "musical idols." eek

I like talking about his music and performace from the '60s to even '00s with other orgers. A number of them bring a fresh perspective that is PROBABLY unavailable in forums dedicated SOLELY to Michael Jackson. I am guessing that fans of Madonna, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, etc. feel the same about Prince: Music: Non-Prince. Thus, I do not think there should be a sticky for threads on Michael Jackson, if threads on his personal life and appearance are transferred to another forum. However, if a sticky is made, it would ONLY be fair to do make stickies dedicated to Madonna and Janet Jackson as well.

But I guess the moderators have to decide....

You don't need multiple people creating the same thread -- which is the problem with the "Michael Jackson moonwalks on water"-type topics. It's one thing to express your personal opinion, but that doesn't mean you have the right to create threads that say the same thing.

food 4 thought ..

Well I very rarely post MJ related threads on here but I do talk about Prince a lot at MJ's sites as i've noticed that MJ fans are starting to talk about Prince A LOT on his site these days. The difference there however is that they usually have one thread in the non-MJ music sections of the board dedicated to Prince so they confine all the Prince chatter to one thread.

Although I am a huge MJ fan and post on his boards I have to agree that there are WAYYY too many MJ related threads on this site. If I wanted to only talk about MJ, I would stick to only posting at his boards but I come here to talk about and find info about other artists because I actually like other artists besides MJ. I am sick to death of all these Jackson related threads period. I'm tired of both the Janet and MJ threads on here, but the MJ threads are the absolute worse and the thing is that it's the same things being discussed time and time again by the same people mostly. MJ fans and Non-MJ fans are both to blame for this. They have gone overboard with it.

From now on though, if the topic has nothing to do with his music or career I am not even going to bother responding. I'm just bored with these same discussions already.

Maybe we should just have one MJ-related thread where everyone can post?

I am quite new to the org compared to you. But I was under the impression that the moderators are suppose to keep in control threads that have little to do with constructive criticism and discussion of his music and performance. While I contributed to threads (like you) on his apperance recently, I was surpised that none of them were transferred to "General Discussion" or "Politics and Religion."

If it clearly states at the top of the board to go easy on the multiple topic/same artist threads then they need to be locked. We don't need a new thread for every faction of MJ's existence.

I've also noticed a few new members who seem to only post about MJ. They just signed up to Prince.org to talk about MJ as opposed to going to an MJ board.

And yes, I've contributed to a couple MJ threads but I definitely don't start them.

How many times can you go over your favorite songs from [insert album here]?

Of course his minions would see multiple threads as a sign of his greatness and how relevant he still is, not their total fanatacism. rolleyes

Thanks for judging the unknown. Didn't know you were a mind reader. Yes that exactly what I thought the multiple threads were a sign of MJ's greatness. I couldn't possibly be just simply replying to any of them because I am interested in any particular topic confuse No seriously, its rather rude to ASSume how a group of people might feel about something. In fact, its more like wishful thinking; a funny idea you thought of and put it in the mouth of your's desired. Now, if people don't want MJ threads to populate, you're only making them stay by replying to them. And theres a lot of non-MJ fans and even ones 'haters' who keep them going.

I'll admit, I'm only a casual Prince fan (note the profile). But I don't talk about MJ in the General Discussion, I talk in the Non-Prince section. Is that against the rules? eek

No offense, but a number of the threads on his personal life, including his apperance and the debates over whether or not his children are half-African-American, are started BY NON-MJ fanatics.

Also, I find the excessive amount of threads devoted to the subject of Michael Jackson to be tiring, but you are generalizing to an extreme his fanbase with your comment: "Of course his minions would see multiple threads as a sign of his greatness and how relevant he still is, not their total fanaticism."

On a final note, if you have a problem with other orgers discussing their favorite songs and albums, report these threads to the moderators. I suppose you are already tired of my multiple threads on John Lennon and his album the Plastic Ono Band. sad

Or better yet, folks should start more threads about particular funk or disco songs. Remember all those "Jam of the Day" threads I used to start? I got the idea from Finess when I first joined the org. Angela74 continued on with similar threads for a while and then she disappeared. You've started a many a great thread yourself.

I would start more threads to liven things up but I'm kinda in a slump right now and can't think of any songs that I haven't started threads on in all the years I've been here.

Nobody is forced to read those MJ threads. If they're bugging you, take action and stop reading them.

Well, as you've already stated, only SOME have posted to the 50 zillion threads in question. Include me in the ones that haven't contributed to them.
