I've been thinking 4 a while that the "Prince - Music & More" section should be divided into 2 sections... "Prince - The Music" and "Prince - Miscellaneous". The 1st would be about music only... albums, songs, instruments he uses, lyrics, etc, etc... the 2nd would have all of the gossip, clothing, hair, & style comments, pictures, who he should marry, etc, etc, etc.

Recently, as in the last 2-3 years, the "Prince - Music & More" section has been flooded, and it would be nice 4 folks like myself, who care mostly about the music, 2 have a dedicated section, which I guarantee would still be huge.

Also, I think the additional popularity from 'Musicology' and '3121' has created a lot of newjacks.

Whatever the case may be, I think dividing it this way (into 2 different sections) would greatly improve the quality of the posts, simply because it would be easier 2 find interesting threads 2 post on. The folks that wish 2 wallow in the "who's doing who" type o' threads can still get off in their own section.

But I like the forum as is.

I would support an org IQ test. If you pass, you can come in, if you fail you have to spend your days in a "can Prince fight?" forum.

I like the idea of separating music from other "items of interest". Sometimes it seems like I scroll thru a lot (esp. after missing a day or 2) to find something I care to open and read.

I’m not totally against this idea – but check this out:

I think it’s important that the forums remain healthy in the category they were intended for. Prince: Music & More is just that… all things Prince, regardless of the content. I believe if we had two forums set up for his music, and all things musically involving Prince – it would garner some great discussion.

If we had threads involving his relationships with women, or whether he bought or sold a house, or even questioning his use of high heels, a specific forum for that could be valuable to those who like to indulge in that type of discussion.

Those who like to dissect his music - discuss the lyrics, the melodies, the hooks, the vocals, the background vocals, the production etc… would benefit from a forum more specific to that type of environment.

However, it is also my belief (and I’d put money down on this) that everyone who is sitting here at their computers stating that they’d prefer music discussion to general threads on his behavior, or vice-versa, would no doubt post in both forums on a continuous basis regardless of the content. We’re Prince fans – it’s just what we do. No shame in it – really!

So, if Ben were to act on this request, then we would have another forum to moderate, more threads to move from improper forums to proper forums, etc… is this something we really need?

Like I said, I’m not totally against this idea – I would support the change, and look at it as job security.

Has anyone mentioned me yet?

I sure would like to know what Imago thinks about all this, as he is probably the most influential Prince fanatic on this site.

I understand that some folks think that the aspects of Prince's life that are not related to music (His ass fettish, satanism, bisexuality, rib replacement efforts, and dihydrogentated monoxide phobia) are superflous in the over discussion of Prince. And they may very well be. But whenever a forum has material that of sufficient volume to split it (say if Politics and religion ever got split), it would add additional overhead to what the mods need to do to maintain and clean each forum up. Already, things are posted in General discussion that need to go elsewhere, and so on and so forth. Splitting the Prince M&M forum into the Music, then the "More" means that the mods then have an additional area they need to ensure is kept clean. They would spend, what I would consider, a good deal of time moving all the Prince picture threads into the other forum as folks would naturally think it rightfully belongs in the "Prince Music" forum. Plus it presents issues. What if a person wants a picture thread of Prince playing an instrument--is it Music? Is it More? It just becomes an administrative burden which would be ok if the extra effort was justified by the intent. But I'm not 100% sure that Prince Music & More actually needs that.

But then again, I find ALL the threads in there hilarious. There are some really really really messed up people in there.

When NPGMC shut down, Prince.org became....freeekaaaaay.

I'd have to say both June7 and Imago make very valid points.

For now, I consider it my own punishment for missing a few days around here when I have to weed thru the silly threads to find the discussions interesting to me. I'm also not as hesitant to bump up an "older" thread if I think it's worth talking about some more.
