Troll level up There seems to be in increase in this type of post on the org lately:
Don't post trolls/ads/spam/get-rich-quick schemes/other junk. Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to get people riled up. Don't post useless off-topic stuff. Even if a silly, no-purpose post seems harmless and fun, don't be surprised if you get a warning and the message locked/deleted. Posts asking about fighting ability, multiple posts about violent tendencies, posts designed to provoke anger, ect... I am avoiding quoting specific posts to protect the guilty. We had 1 attempt at a REALLY offensive user name, which has disappeared, now perhaps 2 new posters have replaced that user. My question is: do you think this is a result of a new album announcement? The "offenders" are new to the site. Or perhaps they are former members that changed names to start posting the same stuff all over again. Feel free to discuss your thoughts on their possible motivations here. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

I feel it may be a result of simple human nature.
It seems trolling levels rise and fall on a consistant basis

There are always going to be trolls. The best way to deal with them is NOT to feed the troll. The troll thrives on the attention and/or upheavel it creates on any site including this community.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...nternet%29 In Internet terminology, a troll is someone who intentionally posts derogatory or otherwise inflammatory messages about sensitive topics in an established online community such as an online discussion forum to bait users into responding. They may also plant images and data on networks that others may find disturbing (usually indirectly relating to the individual in person) in order to cause confrontation. Oh...and those "monsters in the woods from the Star Wars movie" are Ewoks. Or Wookies, depending on which movie you're talking about. [Edited 6/18/07 1:54am]

Some people consider posters who aren't in the majority and post from their hearts (which happens to be unpopular) trolls. So, to some people, a troll is a conservative, a christian, a pro-lifer, a person not immobilized by political correctness, a person who stands up for traditional values...
Am I for banning my opposition? No. I hope you're not either. America's political system used to be about the "pursuit of happiness." Now more and more of us want to stop chasing it and have it delivered.

OK, some clarification. You can be critical of Prince all you want, that's kinda the point of an internet forum, to come and bitch or come and talk about what you like. I also don't care if you are a person, I guess, free of the shackles of "political correctness". I really don't give a shit what your beliefs are. Here are some examples, completely hypothetical, of posts and/or exchanges I may be talking about:
Can Prince fight? Men who release perfume are gay. "You said something I don't like, so I point out your spelling sucks" "No, your spelling sucks" "No, YOUR spelling sucks" Does Prince pay for the org because he has a big ego and pays to have it stoked? Completely hypothetical, but you get the point. Now, I'm off to be politically correct and trash some family values. There have to be some gay dudes that want to get married around here...I'll have to check out that perfume post... Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Yea, I don't mind the silly fun, but it is annoying to have to wade through a bunch of crap to get to the crap I consider fun. My main point in posting this was to try to open some eyes of the people who are getting baited. If they realize that these folks want them to respond and get angry, they can refrain and the insult wars go away. Then I can get right to the posts about Prince's socks without wading through 3 pages of personal attacks. If your silly fun is actually coming here and bating folks into a virtual slap fight, well then I guess I don't want you to have your silly fun. No he wasn't of course, but I and many more with me, consider people who CONSTANTLY have to refer to Jesus doing this or that as some kind of measurement nothing more than windpipes, at best. At worst they're trolls cos they KNOW it riles people up. If you can't discuss issues without dragging Jesus into it you don't have anything to hang your hat on.

Just for the record, I hate our internet terminology. Leet speak, trolls, spam and such.It just sounds childish. If I had my way I would just call them douchebags and be done with it. I only used the term troll, so we were working with a common denominator. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. I am not a overly religious person nor a pro-lifer and I don't want to have my beliefs shit on just like they don't. My opinion is that it seems to be tolerated for some reason while we heathens have to respect someone's religion.

here's what i think is hard for folks to understand though (in regards to religious speech).
you can say: "my religion teaches me that homosexuals will burn in hell for their sins". well, you can post that...but you can't post: "you are going to hell because *you* are gay". now, let me remind folks that i don't moderate the p&r forum and haven't all year however based one my own experience that was always a frustrating balancing act for folks to understand. the org is just like the real world and there are views that while we might not agree with (or in some cases we hate) but we still have to tolerate. i honestly thing we go too far sometimes in what we expect of this sites moderation...
