A friendly inquiry about threads about musicians but not about their music

This inquiry was sparked by the Marilyn Manson thread created in the GD about the girl he's dating now, luv4u moved it to the music forum but then Supa convinced her to move it back to GD, presumably arguing that it has nothing to do with music which of course it hasn't. Now, Ben has said that the moving of threads often causes what we refer to as "Org hiccups", "glitches" or "bugs", and we all know there are a LOT of those. I was thinking, in the interest of making/keeping the site running as smoothly as possible, would it be possible to handle threadsconcerning musicians but unrelated to their music as follows:

- If such a thread is created in the Music forum, let it stay there.
- If it's created in the GD, let it stay there.

I can't really see what harm it would do to simply leave them alone, this is why I'm asking. Personally I believe this type of thread belongs in the GD because it has nothing to do with music, the Prince: Music and More forum is called that for a reason but the unrelated music forum doesn't have that "and more" attachment.

An alternative to my suggestion might be a blurb at the top of the music forum saying that threads NOT concerning music should be created in GD, but personally I think there are too many blurbs up top already.

So, mods and maybe most of all Beverly, what do you say? batting eyes

I agree.

Esp when for the most you want to direct the thread to the GD people.

Of course if it is Prince related it should go in the Prince Forum, but in thsi case and others they should just stay.

I dont know how many threads are moved, but the org has been hicuuping so much recently that sometimes it takes forever to get back online, and I give up.

If we can in the meantime keep the org running as smoothly as possible and just have threads moved where REALLY necessary, it would be better all round, until ben gets this bug fixed.

There are so many people that come to the org and post, chat or read the forums it is a shame that some of us, leave the site when it has hicuuped, esp due to the moving of a thread.

Agreed. Musicians are often celebrities. Cluttering up the music forums with celebrity gossip is annoying. Sometimes threads go one way or another, though, and it seems best just to leave this kind of thread where it started.

Plus, as Red said, moving threads right now causes problems for the entire site. It should only be done for a good reason. When in doubt, DON'T MOVE IT. smile

Overall, that's my general philosophy. If it's obvious, it'll get moved. If it's questionable, I'll just leave it.

Other mod thoughts? The above seems to make the most sense...

agreed...i tend to not move threads at this point because of the hiccups...maybe we should start leaving these "celebrity" type threads in gd...and if a thread is totally off-topic (ie a recipe thread in associated artist) we should consider just locking it.

with that being said...the decision is up to the mod who is managing the situation.

I agree it's up to the mod but for consistency it would be nice if we'd all agree to do roughly the same thing, whatever that might be. And the org hiccup is as good a reason as any to keep moving threads to a minimum. Not to say continually posting in the wrong forums would be tolerated. Just that the descriptions of each forum don't have to be quite so utterly strict.

If the "move" of a thread to another forum is causing the sight to wig

a lock with a note on it as to which forum the orger should repost in seems like a wise thing to do until ( and if ) the bug is worked out

I agree w/ leaving general celeb threads in GD (the Manson thread that got moved was mine, I started it in GD for a reason) smile

Just like the Amy Winehouse thread that was in M:NP but is now in Associated Artists confused She's not an associated artist lol It should have been left in its original forum. Sometimes I think these things are just moved out of boredom razz

And the John Mayer thread in M:NP (which I was personally enjoying falloff ), locked DAYS after anything interesting had even happened lol Plus there was no flaming on that thread, just a halfway decent conversation - what's wrong w/ that? hammer
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart
