Although I like Ian, I think he's getting a little too "thread locking" happy.

What I think is scary is that he is right most times...
meaning that most locked down things DESERVE to be locked down.

I think Ian is doing fine now..(with the acception of his tacky Bobby Brady like signature...Ian- The Hall Monitor..rolleyes).

I think there is a fine mix of intelligent discussion *and* tomfoolery now...before hand, the GD was all fun and flames...which I guess is great if you like that...but, then it lead to people getting way out of hand...expecially with the flame wars..and I for one am glad that the personal insults are no longer allowed.

This was the response I recieved:

"I've locked the thread. People can still read it. Thanks for posting such an informative thread, I'm sure people will find it useful.

I locked it because I did not want it to evolve into a discussion of pirated software. Your post was informative and useful, people can read it if they want. There's no need for comments.

Cheers

Ian"

So now if your post even looks like it may go awry, before you even actually do anything wrong, you can get locked.

nice.

Tom - get over it man. I locked your thread. End of story.

You neglected to mention that I offered to reopen the thread for you if you could edit it to at least PRETEND to be interested in generating some discussion.

And in case you still weren't sure, here's a quote from the forum rules:

Moderators have absolute rights.
prince.org administrators and moderators reserve the right to edit, relocate and/or remove any message, at any time, for any reason. Consider all editing decisions final. If you don't agree with a decision, you may discuss it with the moderator who made the judgement in private, but you aren't 'entitled' to a "hearing" or even a response. The rules outlined on this page, above, will be used as moderation guidelines.

Sheesh, if every person who had their thread locked decided to throw a hissy fit on the Site Discussion forum, this would take over from GD as the most popular.

I don't find his signature tacky at all--it merely has his name and "prince.org moderator." Why shouldn't he identify himself as a moderator? Otherwise, new users might wonder, "Who the heck is this guy and what makes him think he can tell me what I can and can't post?"
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.

ian ian ian, these are the types of responces you need to avoid man..it just makes the whole deal of moderating frustrating...like i said in my initial recommendations to you, remove the personal emotions..be diplomatic...*that* is still my only concern about your moderation...well, that and the dorky sig you've tagged on.. wink

maybe not tacky..but it sure is dorky...like Peter walking around with the armband that said "MONITOR"...hehehehe

i think the prince.org logo as his AV gives people enough indication of what he does...

That's the reason I changed it actually, and my avatar - in case new users were like "who the f*ck is this guy telling what I can post?". biggrin

Hmmm... I'm not sure all folks (especially new members) will make the connection. What if we modified the avatar to include the word "Staff" at the bottom? Would that be somewhat less offensive (for lack of a better word)?

Sorry SK, I don't buy it this time razz

The original post that started this thread was never intended as "constructive criticism". I know a hissy fit when I see one! fishslap

Ah well, posts get locked, someone gets pissed off. Such is the nature of moderation.

SK I'm gonna change my sig just for you man!

indeed! lol it really sucks when you're told that you're creating more work for the moderators because 1) one of them has a personal grudge against you and freely admits to scrutinizing your posts more than anyone else's and 2) people like Nep2nes talk trash all day long, but go and report you for every post. if that's creating more work for them, ah well... what can i do about it? except sit here and not be able to send orgnotes with my account restricted. and not have even received any notification about it.

of course, the restriction came immediately after i'd sent ONE orgnote today. and funny, matt was mentioned in it. think maybe there are privacy concerns when you send an orgnote? think a moderator might be reading messages meant for other orgers? i'm starting to think so...

I suggest you immediately post every thought in your head on a new topic, so you don't have to use those damned annoying orgnotes. That seems to be what the mods are trying to get you to do. We, being adults for the most part, can choose to ignore threads we don't like, so a deluge of topics won't be a problem! Right?
