When a member is banned, what is the decision making process??

1.Does one moderator decide to ban an individual or is it discussed with other mods?
2.I understand the moderators, according to site rules, have final say....what if a mod is having a bad day. (thus, the checks and balance system)
3.Do moderators get together and brainstorm on site issues.
4.The question "do mods have to report to Ben when there's a ban"...wasn't answered. Do you?

We have a forum where we can bounce around ideas and issues with eachother.

We do not have to unanimously agree to ban someone, we can decide that by ourselves.

We do not report to Ben when we ban someone. Ben has given us the power to do this for a reason. We have a "table of contents" of moderator actions for that day (or couple of days) that displays all the things we've been dealing with. Also, we all get an auto-notification of serious actions through our moderator notification system.

We can do this after several warnings and strikes, or after just one.

We warn eachother of issues ongoing, or about orgers we should keep an eye out for.

We always say that if any orgers disagree with our decisions to talk it over with the mod that took action, and if that didn't work appeal to another mod, (who will talk to the first mod). If you're still not happy, appeal to the highest court - Ben.

Unless Ben intervenes, all mod decisions are final.

I hope this was helpful to you. Now be good. cool

orgnote?

i had a teacher of mine tell me i was often the topic of discussion on the teachers lounge, that a lot of the teachers had no idea how to handle a politically aware and politically angry out of the closet gay kid who had no qualms chalenging the text on intent and fairness. she wouldn't specify more than that, but i am sure part of it was when i threatened a lawsuit over the posting of a letter from a politician that said gay people were the reason the economy was bottoming out, and because i called attention to a history teacher who listed all of the nazi prison camp groups EXCEPT gay folk. i also reamed that teacher for saing that slaves were mostly well-treated during the slavery days.

it made my day.

I have disagreed with two mods decisions to give me a warning and both mods WOULD NOT discuss why I was given a warning. shrug

We wouldn't want you to ruin your day... really, why would you want to suffer like that? Ignorance is bliss, you know? Besides, who really has the time to go over the pages and pages of comments about you?

your confusing a temporary ban with a permanent ban. a temporary ban is a warning...and even so, if someone does something that is soo offensive a permanent ban without warning can be warrant.

Stymie didn't say she was temporarily banned. She said she was given warnings and not told what she was getting the warnings for. Some people get temporarily banned without such warnings. See the difference?

i was not responding to stymie's post...i was responding to yours...and your response eluded to being banned without warning...and that has nothing to do with stymie's situation. let me repost it:

lol At least you didn't get banned without a warning

that was all...if i misunderstood the point you were trying to make feel free to clarify.

She seemed to have an issue with the warnings she got. I responded with at least she got one without being banned (temp or perm). You said a temp ban is a warning. She never got a temp ban. So, therefore, some people get warnings via note or directed at them in a thread and some people just get temp banned. Seems like different mods have different opinions on what a warning is. This thread is initially about banning. I'm assuming she was warned about the possiblility of being banned
