I choose not to ignore. If I happen to disagree, I say so...by and large... or I laugh and then move on to the next thread. People's opinions and their right to air them is cool, as is my right to vilify them and/or ignore them.

If that's what works for you, great! I'd rather have the button. shrug

Personally, I think an "ignore orger" button would work better. Those that don't mind the foolishness can enjoy it and those that do mind it, won't have to be put up with it, without missing out on the other aspects of the discussion. Problem solved!

I've never been one for 'see no evil, hear no evil'. I don't actually think there are a huge number of orgers in it purely for winding people up, a couple but not a lot. Mostly it is simply a case of people having different opinions which others might bracket under " false accusations, innuendo and flat out lies".

Anyway, I've got one of those buttons. It is in my head. Only takes you a second to recognise an orgers name and not bother reading their post, if that is your wish.

Haters: Those that hate to see anyone else enjoying a discussion about Prince so they interject with false accusations, innuendo and flat out lies.

Naysayers: Those that dismiss every new song, tour, television appearance, or idea as failures even before they've listened to the songs, gone to the shows, watched the program and heard the idea.

Nothing over-the-top. Just my definitions of who these people are. wink

I still stand by what I said. And I still think the use of those two words shows up people's limited vocabulary and their lack of ability to think too deeply.

falloff

Why would anyone waste an extensive vocabulary and deep thought on people that fit those descriptions?

Well, a button wouldn't work. You could block the orgers initial posts, but if that orger's post's text has been included in a reply, you would still read their thoughts later on. Unless you then block out the orger replying to the first orger, and so on, until there's no one left on the org to read posts by!

No blocking..freedom of speech..but a warning like "those who mindlessly love the ground the Mr. Nelson walks on might want to take cover." and then go for it.... (:

confuse What? You've never been to another board that has the "ignore user" capability, have you?

When you put the user or in this case the orger, on your ignore list, you can't view posts by that user, even if someone quotes them, you'd only see the reply if given from the second orger. Unless of course, that person is on your ignore orger list also. In which case, what they had to say probably wouldn't matter to you anyway.

I've been to boards where this is available and it's a nice feature for those that wish to use it. Just because you feel no need for it, doesn't mean that others feel the same way. Personally, I still think it's a good option to have and I like having options.

Blocking does not inhibit anyone's freedom of speech, they can still post whatever they wish. It just provides those that don't wish to read it, the freedom to not have to.

Ohhhhh, not a bad idea at all. Interesting how using these sites to bring together people with similar interest and educating one another can really contribute to the advancement of the whole.....thank you

I don’t necessarily believe in the whole totally ignore routine. For the most part yes, just ignore them, especially when you realize they’re just their for attention. But sometimes people can post things that are so wrong, it warrants a challenge. Like yesterday for example, a poster started a thread. And another person replied with his typical anti-Prince bashing, but then he posted something about Prince that was just wrong. Wrong not because it was a negative Prince comment, but because it’s just a horrible thing to say about anyone in that given situation which I’m not going to repeat. So I challenged that person, who instead of explaining themselves or admitting its wrong, responded with more Prince bashing and the thread eventually got deleted.

There was also another time where someone, who never posts anything nice, posted something that was a flat out lie. I think they stated that Prince was letting celebrities in at the aftershow at the Butter Restaurant for free, and that was not true, they actually paid top dollar for a table. Then after being challenged, the person admitted they "thought" that's what usually happens---whatever.

I say this to say it’s always good to allow both positive and negative opinions, but sometimes it good to call people out and check them for saying things that is morally wrong or mean spirited, or when you have the facts to prove it’s wrong.

There are some things I like about Prince and some things I dislike. Expressing those things I dislike can be problematic. I've had an orger pursue a M&M comment I made in ANOTHER unrelated forum.
Everyone has their own experiences. Unfortunately some individuals on this site believe others need to think the same way they do. That's not how it is in real life, why should Prince.org be any different?
