Unfortunately, it seems that a handful of members have been org noted with spam originating from Nigeria from a couple of 'spook' sign-ups. I'm sure you'll all know the generic mailshot by now - 'I work in a bank and have found $11million dollars registered in a dead guys name, just need to relocate it out of the country so I need your bank account details, password, photo, personal info etc so that you can share in this too-good-too-be-true windfall, yadda, yadda...

And that's just it - it IS too good to be true.

If any of you receive any such comms, DO NOT reply to the sender - please inform a moderator immediately, forwarding the message as well as that user account name, date it was received etc. and it will be dealt with in the severest manner as swiftly as possible.

It goes without saying that none of you should ever give out any personal information of any kind in any such circumstances, and as an extra precaution you should change your password occasionally - especially so after any such contact previously mentioned.

We take the security and right-to-privacy of all our members very seriously, so if any of you receive such org notes then trust us when we say that we wanna know about it. Just contact an Org Mod asap.

Please pass this thread link on to your Org friends etc, directing them here so they too can read this and be informed.

do not even reply with a joke ... even that can give them info about your IP and if you do not have goo security they could find exploits and get personal info off your computer (like pay pal info and what not)

*those fake links will say WWW.prince.org but it will show up as either ip numbers like 223.12.2313 or some other URL.

Two things to that: it's a lot of work to orgnote your buddies one at a time and it will quickly mean a lot of new orgnotes for every user with the same message over and over again, but send by different buddies. May be a little bit too effective!

That said, maybe all the mods can temporarily add the link to their sigs for the next week or two - that's a more effective idea. I'll get on to that over the weekend.

i'm shocked. and encouraged by the new-found maturity and restraint.

2the9s and anx both asked for my bank account numbers... please ban them
