New GD : R U Having Fun?

So now that we've got it back, are you having fun? Is it worth your while?

My own answer : I'm not having much fun. True, it's a strange week due to other factors, but... either everyone's a little rusty including me or the rules make everyone extra careful. I guess it's just as well for now and that it will progressively become more involving... or not.

I have been busy and logged on the the GD fourm today for the first time in 4 days. In the 'old' days I would have spend 30 min- 1hour catching up on all the the gossip/flames/discussions/etc. Today it took me 10 minutes and there was only one thread I felt like commenting on.
sigh

Well aside from all the moderating stuff and all that, I'm enjoying the new GD more than before... maybe because people are being a bit more thoughtful in their posts with the new rules and all that. Well it might be my imagination but it looks like people are posting better stuff this time around. Am I wrong?

I'm kind of split on the issue. There are a LOT less threads to comment on, which is both good and bad - [insert what the duck said here]. However, it's nice to see that a lot of the garbage is gone.

People are being more positive too. "Who's the most creative orger" "Who do you love" "Who has the most beautiful heart/soul" "Who is the most beautiful" "Who has the most creative name" and the likes. My guess is that people are glad that the GD is open so they're trying not to fuck it up, or perhaps the good vibes are just overflowering.

Maybe ian's iron fist has everyone tiptoeing around... lol Just kidding ian. You know I heart and respect ya...
I mean, like, where is the sun?

What still bothers me is that someone like Bart would quickly get his account deleted under the new rules. Sure, his attitude can be... hmmm.. what it is... but I really don't mind putting up with some nasty language if the poster is interesting.

I guess it's like how we pick our friends. Some like their friends to be mostly nice and proper, others would rather hang out with rather blunt people who swear a lot, because somehow this is more substantial. These are two extremes, but I definitely lean toward the latter. I like people around me to be frank.

Just a matter of personal opinion...

To be honest Aero, I always felt that Bart badly needed to learn how post with a bit of civility. He might have some decent opinions from time to time, but they were outweighed by his incredibly rude demeanour. He wasn't just abrasive - he was a royal pain in the arse. He was rude when there was no need to be - just because he enjoyed the attention I think.

Like you, I prefer people to be straight up, frank, and be forthright with their thoughts. But that doesn't mean I like people who lack even the most basic social graces, people who can't express themselves without being insulting / offensive.

The new Org doesn't ban people who express opinions intelligently, and it doesn't ban bad language as such. It's just about how you treat other people on the site.

Consider Kelly Anne on the old Org. I often agreed with some of her points, she could be intelligent and well-reasoned when she wanted to be. But at other times she posted insane racist drivel that would get her banned under the new rules, regardless of how interesting her points were. And that is as it should be, in my opinion biggrin

I think Ian is doing a great job. hug

But I'm still mostly just hangin' out at the org musicians hangout forum. boxed

I'm not afeared of you all, I just would rather not have to sort through garbage and negativity. mr.green
Then I end up missing some good stuff, I know. Sounds to me like the org is better these days.

But Kellyanne was one of the first persons to leave after version 2 was up. I doubt she'd strive under the present rules.

What I've seen isn't a lot of fun so far. Forgive me for saying this, but people going "keep it clean!", complaining about minuscule Kama Sutra imagery, asking that people be more sensitive about religious matters, etc... well it's all very well-intentioned and no doubt there are some good arguments for it, but it's getting awfully stiffling, not to mention a little wimpy. Maybe it's just part of an adaptation period, and after a while people will be more natural. But as it is, I can't say it's for me. Which is fine... it's not my site.

We'll see.

I don't think someone like Bart would get his account deleted as long as he stayed away from the name calling that he usually does - many times for no reason.

Curse words aren't banned here, they still exist in posts and threads that aren't edited/locked or deleted. I think it has more to do with if they're aimed at people here, and/or how obnoxious one can get with it.

Kelly Anne never left.

Personally, I see the pros AND cons of the new rules. For some it will probably just take some time to get used to after being self-conditioned to go buck wild with thread/post content. In other cases I can definitely see how some people would find the rules and moderation inhibiting.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
