Topic Control Dude, this place is being terrorised by sickos lately. Peadophiles, sodomists & anal sex has nothing to do with Prince & it quite frankly offends me to see it posted up here for all (including young children) to see.
Is it possible to have an adults only area so kids & those who are offended dont see this stuff but the people who enjoy it can still chat about it? | |

prince.org historically has been an OPEN forum..and not necessarily for the faint of heart...
profanity and perversion are now and have always been staples in this forum...  (you know it's the truth!)
my advice is if it offends you, say so..or skip it... prince's music has never been particularly aimed at children anywayz...granted he doesn't use 'profanity' anymore, but fairly graphic sexuality is part of his lyrical content even still... if there was an 'adult' section, what is to prevent children from viewing it? also judging by the way no one posts 'on topic' or in the suggested 'sections' i doubt there's really a way to enforce anything like that... i don't condone a lot of what is said here, but i do accept people's right to say it..and i laugh at it..or don't..and move along... | |

Topic Control?
WOW. In one thread you are promoting the idea that people should just not click on an item if they do not agree with the subject line. Here youa re saying that this should be a totally moderated discussion board. I am happy that you offered a solution like the Adults Room and the Kids room, but for real... Would that mean no swearing in the Kids forums? And would we have to submit authentication on entry to the Adult Room? Do you understand that in the U.S.A. (where the server is hosted)there are legal responsibilities once a BBS or Web Chat site owner starts that type of segregation? If you have an Adults Only section, you either have to be absolutely adamant in keeping out people who are underage (and this varies from community to community across the world), or you have to have a disclaimer that says "if you are underage and visit the site and see something you shouldn't, that's your problem." That kind of disclaimer defeats the purpose of implementing an Adults only section; therefore, in the end, it's either free reign at the discretion of the site host or absolute lock down. And Ben has already stated that he will remove posts that are pure non-sense, flame wars, ticket scalpers, libelous posts and direct threats. Well, he might not have said he'd remove all of those, but I bet he would! Talking sex is on topic when it comes to Prince, IMO. I will continue to talk sex about Prince music until Ben/Val/Matt/Kevin tell me not to. There aren't any rules in Paisley Park. Besides...as I said before...by your logic, we should also be going into kids rooms and preventing them from hearing "Sister" and "Erotic City." How about you do not worry about the kids and let thier parents raise them they way the parents want to raise em? Cheers though. The only kind of topic control needed are the general ones. In the Prince: Music forum e.g. people start 20 new threats a day which has absolutely nothing to do with Prince's music. Which of Prince's girlfriends were the sexiest?, etc etc... IT WOULD BE GOOD WITH SOME REMINDERS FROM THE HOST, THE SITE'S EDITOR - SO PEOPLE WOULD POST THEIR THREADS IN THE PROPER CATEGORIES AND NOT MAKE THIS BEAUTIFUL AND FANTASTICALLY WELL DESIGNED WEB SITE INTO SUCH A MESS... | |

Unfortunately, there's a lot of mess for Ben, Matt & co. to clean up around here b/c people continue to clutter the site w/ crap. I still vote for thread limits - at least then they'll only have to clean up a few threads as opposed to 10, 30, or 50 and MAYBE they'd be inclined to "clean" it more often... No Calhoun, as i said before, limiting a user to post 2 threads a week (that was your suggestion right ?) will only accomplish people making multiple accounts for themselves.. Why didn't you like the idea of auto-deleting every thread after say 3 or 4 days ? No moderating necessary, and btw who reads posts from page 2 and up anyway ? You don't scare me; i got kids | |

There's a news discussion forum in Holland where if you join you get 50 posting points. Each post you make you loose 1 point. All posts are moderated (they have over 10 moderators) and when you have a normal relevant post you get your point back. If you have an offtopic post you loose that point. If you make racist remarks, generalisations, flames etc you may loose 1, 2, 5 or 10 extra points. if you give good information or add to the subject you may get extra points. Once your points are gone you cannot post anymore, and you have to ask the moderators to get new points. Upon your behaviour (which wasn't according to the rules otherwise you wouldn't have lost all your points) they will decide to give you back all or some points, or none, which means you cannot post anymore. Now I'm not suggesting here that Ben & Matt are going to scan every post (they need to have lives too), but it could be done on a higher level, the one posting the subject. And don't give minus points if the thread goes out of control, but only if the thread is totally off-topic or other complete nonsense. I like reading the posts here, but as a lot of people will agree, it's very hard to find a post that's actually on-topic or even remotely news/interesting. And I'm afraid that if this continues it might be the end of the org as we now it, and that would be a shame, for all the work that has been put into it, and for all the people who enjoy it. | |

Page 1 is usually chock full of complete crap, so I'm one of the few that scans those older pages in search of anything of interest that may be hidden. Auto-delete is good for folks who visit the Org errry'day, but I'm a bit more sporadic lately (and trying to stay that way, lol!) so I'd never know what was going on... Do I honestly need to explain this for the 20th time? Yahoo sent the spam mail to members of my yahoo group (which is now non existant). I did not send the mail but apologise to all who were inconvenienced by this. Now if you cant say anything nice, dont say nothing at all, kindly leave me alone | |
