Do the French suck? Why?

I'm not saying they do or anything. But it sure seems like a lot of people out there feel that way.

Post your reasons here.

Americans never forgot France for loving Jerry Lewis and their inability to make cheese that doesn't have a strong odor.

some kids i know who went to france through scholarships hated it cos they say the ppl. smell. they need deodarants according to kids.

Some months ago on my tele, they were showing the current situation in France. they showed a guy who used to believe the holocuast never happened. they also showed how the non-whites such as blacks, and arabs( or at least ppl. of that color) are hated.

france is lovely but i rather visit turkey.

Actually I tend 2 disagree, I've visited France several time, and I feel there is less racial tension in europe than in america...
I think Americans think french people "suck" because French and most of Europeen folks dislike ignorant/crude people...
That's all there is 2 it... Y would U blame them?

Come on there are some pretentious assholes here, but most french people like to party, meet others persons, more or less coherent pseudo-intellectual discussions, (yes, above all, I think that we like to debate), drinking, good food (it's a cliche but it's true), - convivialité - books, culture.
Most french can't understand your economical system: a rich minority, big corporations and the “weapon/ military” lobby making the rules and calling it the "right" (the embargo against the poor irakian people is horrible and stupid), it’s a good way to prevent all discussion ( the way Bush & his staff lead their war vs terrorism)
You americans, didn’t realize how the World is more and more “americanised” & it frightens lots of people in Europe
Voila, sorry again for my poor english folks.

Stupidity strikes again.

“some kids i know who went to france through scholarships hated it cos they say the ppl. smell. they need deodarants according to kids.”
I know some people who meet strangers who know some kids who went to Pakistan and… ( I’d be accused of racism again)

“Some months ago on my tele, they were showing the current situation in France. they showed a guy who used to believe the holocuast never happened” , I teach you a new word: revisionist, there is a region in France “revisionista” where they are all born…

“they also showed how the non-whites such as blacks, and arabs( or at least ppl. of that color) are hated”. I’m “non-white”.
“france is lovely but i rather visit turkey” , well…

Thanks to your huge knowledge, books are useless.

I liked Amelie.

And anyway, isn't SubyDuby considered a comedic genius in France? Didn't they recently engrave "I AM AN ANIT-CHRISTER" on the Arc De Triumph?

I think especially americans have a strong dislike for the french because the french keep some attutude about their language which a lot of americans might consider arrogant. there is a governmental committee which meets once a year to create french words for new american words which appeared in the language. they wanna keep their language clean... can you blame them? it sounds extremely beautiful... however, I have to admit that there is a certain disrespect for people who do not speak their language... but if you give it a little try, they will be truly happy. I wouldnt call that cultural arrogance. thats more what americans do when they go travel the world and they expect everybody to understand them when they ask for the way to the next mc donalds..

I used to work with a guy that spent 6 weeks going to
different countries in Europe.
I asked him which place he liked the best and who was the
nicest and who was the rudest, I'm not going to say which
country he said was the rudest because I don't want
to start something, but it wasn't France.

The funny thing about this is, the Americans who dislike the French "attitude" for their language are probably the same ones who bitch when they see signs in public facilities in the USA in multiple languages, stating "them damn foreigners need to learn to speak our language, they shouldn't be let in our country if they can't..." and so on...

Beyond that, i personally don't know ANY french redface but I had nothing but good experiences in France when I was there. When lost I always found helpful people and just had a perfect time...

Honestly, of the European countries I've traveled through, I've run into the most "attitude" in Germany for not speaking the language. Now, I wouldn't use that experience to make me dislike Germans, as it's my fault for traveling in a country where i know none of the language, it's just my experience.

now thats strange. germany has the reputation among travellers that they dont ever get to speak german there because the germans insist on speaking only english with them (in order to practise their own skills I guess). seriously, I have many american and british friends here in berlin and most of them never speak german because they dont need to. germany most definetely is the most english speaking country on the european continent.

france is an amazing country. these people worship beauty and promote a certain lifestyle... good food, drink and friends.

i love montpellier and can't think of anywhere else i'd rather live... w/ the sea just five minutes away from my gorgeous duplex apartment, w/ a view over a vineyard...

i can walk five minutes to a farmer's market (tuesdays & sundays), bike to the beach, three good bakeries just a hop skip and jump away... high & low fashion all around...

hmm tonite we'll probably grill mackerel out on the balcony and eat 'em w/ some good red wine we picked up at the market (5 liters for a few bucks... you'd pay 10x more in the states)... this is the life.

I think it was Dusseldorf (sp?) that we ran into a lot of attitude, maybe we just met the wrong people?

I had the most luck with english in the Netherlands, even in the small towns there, people were very helpful and willing to speak English to help...
