I've never had any problems with the mods on this site (or at HQ, or NPGMC for the record).

Considering the fact that they volunteer their time & energy to do what is a largley thankless job of babysitting a bunch of crazy ass Prince fans (don't front--y'all know we Prince fans are crazy biggrin ) I think they do an excellent job.

Are there times/things that could be handled differently/better? Sure--but don't you ever have a bad day or make a decision that in retrospect maybe wasn't the "best" one. I know I do. So I learn from it and move on.

In my experience people generally treat you the way you treat them...so I try to be respectful of everyone on this site, even if I disagree with their opinions and I really haven't had any problems (only one minor thing).

If people are getting so frustrated with this site then take some time off, don't visit, go to Housequake or somewhere else. (In my opinion, HQ puts up with even less BS than here.)
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

You say... "In my experience people generally treat you the way you treat them..." Meaning, I guess, that we should respect the mods. Which I agree with.

But before that you say... "they volunteer their time & energy to do what is a largley thankless job of babysitting a bunch of crazy ass Prince fans "

I would hope that they don't think of what they do as "babysitting"; if they do, that might account (by your logic) for how people act here.

You say (and we keep hearing this OVER and OVER again!) that they volunteer their time, that it is thankless and time consuming etc. We get it! And again, by your logic, if this is such an issue with some mods, then clearly the best thing to do is step down, as several have done. You make it sound like a one way deal.

You are directing your comments solely to the users and not at all to the mods. Since the mods have volunteered their time and are interested in bettering this community, the burden is much more on them to make it work, and they are just as responsible for learning from their behavior as users are. That doesn't mean they need to publically flagellate themselves everytime a bad decision is made. But nor does it mean spending countless hours scanning threads and writing justifications for every action etc. It means finding a policy that allows you to do your job while putting your personality aside as best you can. It means recognizing that the USERS not the MODS are what this site is about. If you took a mod job just to be a big dog in the fam community, I pity you. If you are interested in babysitting and getting paid for it, I recommend joining a babysitter's club.

For many many people this site works just fine the way it does whether mods get involved or not. How we act is not some kind of reward or acknowledgment to the mods.

Every time I see a post about how we need to "appreciate a mod," my eyes bleed. Every time I see "if you don't like it, leave," a mod should get their wings and fly...

The mods I admire are the ones who see themselves as part of this great community, not above it.

I appreciate the mods (former and current) who are fair well balanced and keep their own personal agendas out of the way. I also appreciate those who do this job without acting as though they are martyrs for the good of the online community. In other words, if they represent themselves as advocates instead of individuals who are here to enforce the rules of the forums, then they aren't really doing their jobs.

I'll reiterate what 2the9s just said: The mods I admire are the ones who see themselves as part of this great community, not above it.

With that said, my appreciation list includes *but is not limited to:

Ian
Anxiety
Handclapsfingasnapz
BananaCologne
Yamomma
Luv4U - who's a little snip-happy sometimes but I definitely understand why...
Ben - because he owns the damn place

* Mods if you don't see your name on this list it's either because a) I don't venture into the forums you moderate b) I didn't know you were a moderator c) I've got issues with your moderation

Perhaps I should have chosen different words. I obviously can’t speak for the moderators but in my opinion, there are some very petty, childish people on the org and a lot of banal, stupid posts. (And that statement is not directed at anyone on this thread.) I know if I were a mod--and I’m glad I’m not--I would get tired of the same drama after awhile. I can only imagine the orgnotes they receive, “snip this, why’d you snip that, lock this thread, I don't like it…”

You say (and we keep hearing this OVER and OVER again!) that they volunteer their time, that it is thankless and time consuming etc. We get it! And again, by your logic, if this is such an issue with some mods, then clearly the best thing to do is step down, as several have done. You make it sound like a one way deal.

I agree. It’s just like anything—if you don’t enjoy doing something then maybe it’s time to find something else to occupy that time. (This can apply to both mods and non-mods.)

Yes, my comments were directed more towards the users, because the question was directed towards users (not mods), and because I’ve had a positive experience with the mods so I didn’t have anything to add about that (other than the ‘everyone has a bad day’ comment). That said, I do agree with you that moderators should be as impartial as possible, etc. I guess I’m just getting a bit tired of all the bickering that seems to be going on as of late (in several forums/threads). When I first became a member here it seemed that people were much more laid back; but lately everyone seems to be at each other’s throats. (Maybe it’s because I “know” more people’s personalities now, or the influx of new people changing the dynamic.) Maybe I should take my own advice and spend more time at HQ. biggrin

For many many people this site works just fine the way it does whether mods get involved or not. How we act is not some kind of reward or acknowledgment to the mods.

I agree, for many people the site works fine (I’m one of them), and we should act respectfully b/c it’s the decent thing to do, not because we’ll “be rewarded” by the mods. But I don’t see why posting ‘appreciation’ threads are bad—we do it for Prince songs, ex-girlfriends, other orgers, so why shouldn’t mods get them too? (I’m still waiting for my appreciation thread! Maybe one day… lol) I’m a huge believer that a little thank you can go a long way.

The mods I admire are the ones who see themselves as part of this great community, not above it.

I concur. But in my personal experience I’ve never really gotten the impression that they think they are “above the community”. Obviously that’s not how everyone feels. But since I can only speak for myself and my experience here, that’s what I did.

cool

Posi+ivity - Have u had ur + sign today?

It's nice that you've all decided to generate a positive thread in this forum. I think most people haven't had issues with Mods, and those that do - we make every attempt to rectify or clarify our decisions.

That being said - Thank you all for your kind words in regards to Moderators.

To those who feel offended or over-moderated, I hope that we can create a better relationship with you.

To those who make every effort to "push the buttons" of Moderators, baiting them into action - you will most likely get that action, which will of course give you more reason to post mean spirited threads.

We make it our responsibility to moderate fairly... we are not above error. If we have made an error in our judgements, we attempt to correct it. We are not in all forums at all times, or even on the Org all the time, so we may not respond to your orgnotes as quickly as you'd like. We are human, so give us an adequate amount of time to get back to you.

I enjoy moderating this site. I enjoy meeting new people with similar likes (Prince). This truly shouldn't be a place to just bitch and complain over - if you're not enjoying yourself here, than perhaps it's time to find a site where you'd enjoy being at... not telling anyone to leave - just pointing out a fact.

Thank you, Nurse, for starting this thread and allowing some "+" energy here.

Oh I understood that you didn't agree with my stance (nor do you agree with appreciation "lists")... your quote was actually the portion I could find common ground with.

Actually I do agree with your stance, though, yes, I am horrified by your list! lol Naming individual mods (one way or the other) shouldn't be what this is about though.

It should be about identifying a policy that works.

Plus, don't go on hiatus! Stay with us!

For the record, I only have appreciation for the current moderators. I have started appreciation threads for them before so I sorta felt it was unnecessary to say it again, but then it occurred to me (yes I'm a blonde, so what? mad ) that appreciation can never be expressed enough, so I say it again:

I only have appreciation for the current moderators. worship
