Suggestion: Forum Stats on the Homepage

How about a forum activity stats like the ones at http://www.tivocommunity.com

On the homepage they have a little box that has the following info:
Threads: 65,353 Posts: 575,587
Registered Members: 16,333
Members Registered Today: 36
Welcome to our newest member, braveit1


Kind of neat. I would be interested in knowing who joined, how many and welcoming them.
