But if it's "this orger was banned for excessive obscene posts", then that's a post of a different color. my i don't even think that's appropriate. why is it anyone's business if someone is banned? at most, i think a public note that says "user's account is currently unavailable" says everything people need to know. why does everyone on the org need to know that someone has been banned as opposed to simply deleting their account? it's nobody's business but the mods and the person who created the account.

If a user doesn't want people to know he/she has been banned, then he/she should play by the rules, so there is no ban. 99% of all orgers have no problem following the rules. Protecting the "privacy" (again, I think this issue is outside the scope of the Privacy Policy) of people who abuse someone else's website is pretty low on my priority list. Also consider this: almost all violations that get someone banned are public (i.e., they're posted to the forums). Why shouldn't our response be public as well? Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Why shouldn't our response be public as well? so moderator behavior should be as public as the banned person's behavior? you're really suggesting that moderators should be expected to behave like a person who is getting banned? damn, i shouldn't have quit, i could have had all KINDS of fun. i agree that the best solution is to simply NOT GET BANNED, but i also have to wonder what the point is of making someone's ban into public knowledge, as opposed to simply having a simple "account deactivated" message. is it so the mods can let everyone know that so-and-so did a no-no and they're sitting in the naughty corner? that's as juvenile as some of the behavior that gets people banned. i'm sorry, matt. i respect you and the other mods a lot, but i think this idea is ridiculous, plain and simple, period.

Teacher said: Or, for you, for gay men... hell, for everybody!!
That's rude as hell.... Anyway with that said.... I don't like this idea...for one if I leave without saying anything it is for a reason...and that reason being obviously I left and did not say anything because I did not want to or cared not tell anyone simple as that. Two if I change my username there was an obvious reason..I got bored of the one I had, wanted something different...did not want anyone to know I am here....etc...If I change my username and I want you to know about it don't worry I will tell you. Three...I have yet to be banned but I am working on it...just for shits and giggles.... To be honest there really is not a whole lotta I am leaving...where is so and so....hi I am new threads....I mean if you see them in the GD..here is an idea don't click on the link if you don't want to read it. Its really not that hard to skip over it. If ya wanna read it more power to you. I personally would not want my account information out there for the whole org to see...I like my privacy...hence the fact I am in lurke mode. As for knowing who got banned and why...frankly I could care less. matt said: If a user doesn't want people to know he/she has been banned, then he/she should play by the rules, so there is no ban.
Just because someone did not play by the rules, does not mean that the moderators have the right to make an example out of them and post in a forum why or how they got banned. Anx said: so teacher, what other personal information would you like us to have exposed?
if we gotta post our SSN and phone numbers, i'm outta here. Don't forget Pee test and blood type... Teacher said: It's not personal, Matt said so
How about bank statements to straight men? Or, for you, for gay men... hell, for everybody!! Yes it is personal information about me and my account...and frankly I don't want you reading about it in some forum, or anybody else for that matter. In closing...again bad idea...sharing other personal iformation and or account information in anyway shapre or form is not good...and teacher if I leave or get banned and I want you to know about it...I will let you know...if not tough

if this happened, i wouldn't like it. if i delete my account or get banned or whatever, it's really none of your business. sorry to be so blunt about it, but i don't see why anyone (other than mods) is entitled to that kind of account information.
