It's done all the time in subtle and not so subtle ways. A thicker skin sometimes helps. "I am the way, the truth and the life; No man cometh unto the father, but by me." - Jesus of Nazareth (John 14:6)

A thicker skin sometimes helps. no, no, i totally agree. my theory is if you can't handle having your beliefs secular, relgious, political, whatever, you should stay out of p&r. i am just curious as to at what point it become forbidden to tell people their religious beliefs are wrong, as sosgemini seems to say. p&r forum rules:
Flex your debating skills on more serious topics such as world politics, history, religion, racial issues etc. Keep it friendly though!
Interested in discussing your political or religious views? Then this is the forum for you. Civility, respect and tolerance must be maintained at all times. Disagree if you wish, but do not attack other individuals on the basis of their beliefs. Remember there is no right or wrong opinion. Any deletion of combative, bigoted or insensitive comments should not be construed as denial of your individual right to air your own opinion ; we only attempt to maintain an inclusive forum. Above all: KEEP IT FRIENDLY! these have been the forum rules for a while now...the p&r forum has been civil for a long time now and its because folks know they cant come into it bashing folks for their beliefs. from time to time i have to post lil warnings reminding folks that this aint the place for bigotry but for the most part the forum has had very very lil moderator intervention. folks seem to like to gang up on ED and while he does a good job of wearing that "thick skin" I still felt that a friendly reminder was warranted before things got out of hand... but note that no comments were snipped...no moderation actions were taken..it was simply a friendly reminder. Um...well...I personally think that rebeljuice was not merely expressing his own opinion in that statement (or did but didn't intend it to come out that way) but was making more of an emphatic and direct statement about a religious document that some hold as sacred. Flat out saying that like he did is very close to being disrespectful of a religion. Hence the warning....

Ive had this argument before to no avail. But, I do not believe that the bible is any word of god, so as part of the debate I stated such. Much like ED does not believe evolution is true and states as much very very often. What is the difference between me saying that he is wrong and him saying I am wrong? None. The only difference is one viewpoint is about religion and the other science. As has been stated earlier, people can be down right ridiculed for their support of Bush but not their religion. If anyone has a tougher skin it is the religious folk so protecting them from an opposing belief isn’t really required. I quite happily take ED’s punches on the chin when it comes to evolution so he should be happy to take mine. And if he isn’t, then he can simply cease to debate with me.
I stand by my views because that’s what I believe. I also stand by the way I expressed those views as it was essential to phrase them that way due to the nature of the debate. He was asking for scientific proof about the resurrection and other such miracles attributed to Jesus, his own argument backed up by the bible. The only way to get around ED’s often circular argument is to dismiss the bible from the equation. And that is what I did. SOS, I really don’t think you need to moderate in order to protect ED. He does enough shit stirring to be big enough to stand up for himself. He is no goody two shoes either and has views far more extreme than my own.

ED (and others) keep on saying Evolution is our "faith". so when he discards Darwin and claims Evolution is purley fictional, should I see this as a religious attack that violates forum rules? Having faith in something not yet seen or not seen or not yet proven is not the same as holding it sacred in worship. I don't think you pray to an evolution god or attend a darwin church so I don't think that really qualifies. Evolution is also not the same as an historical text written by people that were there or claimed to be written by the person claimed to have created everything. Evolution is merely an interpretation of the evidence we see around us today. Origins science. I have never said evolution is fictional. I have said it reaches wrong conclusions and I give alternate ones, based on observable evidence in science and using available scientific techniques. Far, far from a "religious attack".
