Online Fan Community?

I hate to say it, but is p.org losing its community feel? All the threads I want to post on are locked. There is staying on topic & then there is saving our little community we've built up.

Lewis

PS. I really think that the moderators & creators of this site do a great job but I miss the freedom

yeah...it sucks..my work productivity has increased this week..errr!! wink

Matt mentioned the GD section is coming back. My concern is, how many awesome people (who differ in values, opinions, religion and musical taste from me) will not come back...

I hope everyone does cause I can't stand the dry-ness of the site right now..Another possible reason for the redux, half the fun folks are getting back from the Celebration...

I hope, cause if this place stays as funky as it is, im gonna have to find something else to do at work. wink

I guess what I mean is that off topic threads are necessary for us to be a community. Prince.org is not just a place where I come to talk Prince, its where I go to talk with my online buddies & I cant do that when the thread we are chattng on is locked. If a thread becomes troublesome, then sure delete it but not all off topic threads need locking.

Guess we were blessed with a lot of freedom to start with & I really do miss that. Also, try to find another message board like ours if you can. There aint many message boards like this around & I just dont want to see it go sad

God bless

I LIKE IT THE WAY IT IS NOW.
YES, THERE ARE SOME TOPICS I MUST TALK ABOUT.
BUT ALL THOSE RELGION TOPICS HAVE GOT TO GO.
GD BECOMES TOO ANGRY,SAD, AND BORING.
AND GD HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PRINCE.

MATT, U SHOULD DO WHAT THE MJ'S MESSAGE BOARD DID.
THE CREATOR CREATED A GENERAL FORUM IN WHICH THE FANS TALKED ABOUT MJ ONLY. ANOTHER FORUM TALKED ABOUT MJ MUSIC. ANOTHER TALKED ABOUT REVIEWS. ANOTHER TALKED ABOUT ANYTHING.

The sad thing is, the Org turned into a real mess, and many people didn't have the patience to drudge through the crap. We've lost KingSausage and CarrieCee, and I think Wellbeyond's even taking a break. This is truly sad, IMHO. No, the Org doesn't feel much like a community at all anymore.

i got out of the loop, came back to this mess and must say i'm feeling kind of discouraged as well...

the point of this site, IMHO, is not always talking about prince himself 24/7 but prince fans/fams (what we all ought to have in common here) getting together to talk to talk about all kinds of stuff...

that's what i think "online fan community" means.

I know Ben didn't like how the GD turned out, but the longer he keeps it closed, the weaker the traffic gets.

It's been too long, and the precipitative events that led to its closing (voomyio voom.. anyone?) PALE in comparison of some of the stuff I read on the other forums, so it's getting a bit absurd. Sometimes, it feels like the Org was opened as an on-line community, but its unpaid moderators did not want to play the role such a community entails. I mean, a lot of what happened "goes with the territory". So either you are interventionist and view all of the moderation as normal because you want a certain site, or you have a "laissez faire" policy with minimal intervention. I'm sorry it turns out to be a lot of work, but the Org saw its community blossom with all the mess you can expect from all its diversity. I compare it to a small village that develops into a town and gets some big city problems -- it's the ransom of success, really...You know you'll need a bigger police department as the population grows. Closing the GD forever is a bit like closing the downtown area cuz you don't have time to police out the hookers and the pushers.

Some people are like Slinkies...

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
