Plans for GD? So I see General discussion is making a comeback after the celly. Should we change anything about the way in which we use this forum? (2 prevent it being closed again?)

Why should we change? This is a challenge for the moderators and site designers, not for us. Not everyone was acting inappropriately.
Closing the GD as punishment serves no purpose since any online community is a developing one, not a static one. New people, possibly encouraged by their experience at the Celebration or whatever, will start posting as soon as it is opened and things will be the same as they were before because they will have no idea what the hubub was about. If the reason for closing the GD was punitive (and actually I don't think it was), it was a waste of energy. | |

Well a few (temporarily) spoiled it for everyone else. The moderators have to *police* this site as a whole, not just a few individuals. And if these few ppl give the moderators more hassle and work than they feel is worth their while, then unfortunately we all feel the brunt. Closing the GD as punishment serves no purpose since any online community is a developing one, not a static one. The GD forum will be up and running again. This stagnent phase will only last a couple of weeks. This time next month, this whole drama will be a distant memory. P.org has been around for a long time and will easily survive this latest episode. New people, possibly encouraged by their experience at the Celebration or whatever, will start posting as soon as it is opened and things will be the same as they were before because they will have no idea what the hubub was about. We don't know if things will go back to being the same as we don't have any idea what changes the moderators are planning for the GD forum. Besides, newbies will soon pick up on the vibe. I was a newbie not to long ago and just by a bit a lurking I got a feel for the place and how it works If the reason for closing the GD was punitive (and actually I don't think it was), it was a waste of energy. What is done is done. Instead of going on about the loss of the GD forum this week we should think about what happens next. ps- I'm cranky.  | |
