Did we get in trouble

NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS. You want to discuss them, that's OK, but NO OFFERS TO COPY, NO REQUESTS TO COPY, NO "WHERE CAN I GET", etc. NO POSTING OF LINKS TO THESE SITES EITHER.

For legal and other reasons, refrain from posting fake tracklists and attention-seeking "rumor" threads. Violating posts will be removed and your account possibly deleted.

Also, remember to give credit for pictures and information you get from other sites! and Read the FAQs before you ask a question!

why all the big and legal stuff on music and more?

No, well, not recently. Actually that wording (or some very much like it) has been there for a long time (years), but I just added some color to it and reworded it a bit today. But nothing "interesting" happened to precipitate that, besides the mods debating among ourselves if we should make it more noticeable for people who (ahem) may not have noticed it in the past!

I was thinking the same. Good to know everything's hunky-dory.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I agree. It seems as if 'nonsense' is at the choice of the mod. And it only seems to be one particular mod shutting them all down at their personal discretion. I saw one thread that was in the GD forum. I saw no off-color comments, nothing out of line, nevertheless that mod deemed the thread to be 'pointless'. I've actually noticed this particular mod do this often.

Question: is there some new policy on "nonsense"? Its becoming a bit much...all the locked threads that don't go against the forum policies. As much as some of the thread are silly....so what....

Yes, let the posts run their course and please stop locking everything. Let us
choose which posts are nonsense and which are entertaining. Now, I'm afraid to
even post anything in fear of the dreaded lock. This is not good. This is too
much like NPGMC. Please relax and let us have some fun; this is why we come here. Thank you.

My comment is not catty. It's truth. Without singling any particular mod out, I will say that there are some who are clearly representing their own agenda for what they would rather see on the org as opposed to what the rules clearly state is acceptable.

The threads that they have locked will represent who they are. I don't necessarily dislike the fact that they are locking certain threads. However, there were times when other mods would call folks out on their "jive-assery" and that particular moderator's ethics were called into question and concerns about heavy handed moderation and respect for opinions and whatnot were brought up. I believe the other mod was a little more fair in the decision making process of "to lock or not to lock"... but that's a different story.

If all 6 of the moderators were following the exact same procedure, then I couldn't really call it personal could I?

Damn, you fixed the "do"...

It does seem odd the number of threads being locked at a time when suddenly Prince may be getting active again; especially when for so long the mods have been saying that they wished Prince would put out a new album so that the nonsense would stop.

I see why you do it, I guess, though it seems like a sudden shift in policy. People who don't frequent the site every day may not be up to speed on this shift despite the numerous color-coded warnings and might be puzzled or put off by being locked or seeing locked threads.

I don't see the harm of numerous threads, both from a social point of view (not everybody is in lockstep and forcing people to post on the same thread is like forcing people into a discussion they may not want to be in for very good reasons. You have a large population, get used to it. This isn't the PPML or whatever that was) and from a technological point of view (those threads get long and there are people who still have dial up).

I'm just not sure what the policy is and I doubt many people are; and just locking threads with abrupt comments helps neither the individual who is being locked nor the group as a whole who might actually be learning from moderator action.

for example: why lock this thread and allow this one to stay open?

nothing against the authors of either thread, I just needed a concrete example of threads with the same subject matter and examples of moderator participation within those threads

I've noticed an increase in locked threads, snips, and deletions of posts as well.
At first I thought it was becuase of the 3121 nonsense, but I've been seeing it on other threads as well.

Hell, even Zelaira is getting snipped now. lol
