FUCK THAT...six times over. I am not going to pay to espouse my opinions on prince or anything else, but I'll speak my mind as long as these guys are gracious enough to provide me with a forum. Also, did Ben say he was ELIMINATING it, or suspending it temporarily? I don't recall him saying it was gone for good, at least that's the impression I got from post #2 on this thread...

My understanding is that the lockdown of General Discussion is temporary. And I fully support Ben's decision... indeed, it's something we discussed on the telephone recently. I think all of us (myself included) will benefit from a break. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

...and I suspect that you richly deserve the break... there must be a TON of reports to moderators to deal with. Enjoy the rest... I am going on vacation for about two weeks, starting this weekend... I suggest that you accompany my son and I to Sea World and Carlsbad Caverns... much fun will be had by all. SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

I could go on, but I can't be bothered wasting my time on any more of these worthless fools. If the rest of the idiots ...why don't you fuck off... This place is better without you. This, I believe, is part of the problem. Let's see, in the course of disagreeing with something, you've managed to call us "Whiny pricks", "idiots", "worthless" and "fools" who aren't worth your time, in spite of the fact that you, indeed, took the time, which you claim not to have. The irony here is that I agree with everything you said, but this is how the shit gets started. I think "this place is better off without" rude shit like this, but I'm beginning to suspect that's just me. Edited for horrible grammar and spelling. The org is not dead. The org was pushed over the edge by everyone who has bad tempers and have no self control. The org is about "community". What kind of real community treats each other the way people do in here without having a riot? I have seen what overreacting and lack of respect can do to neighborhoods, and it isn't pretty. Ben is simply taking this time to filter out the people who cannot control themselves. This organization is held together by one thing. Prince. We all like him and/or his music in some way. Some people here just like to be here to mock all of us Prince fans and to cause chaos and disorder. It is that type of behavior that Ben will not tolerate any longer, and by the way, he DOES have the right to make the decisions to censor, because this is his private partnership that he has created. The only think he has to comply with the civil rights act, I think. Anyhow, that's my opinion.

I think this place will be fine. I agree with Wellbeyond that Ben and Matt are not exercising their collective fists out of a personal vendetta against certain posters, but rather due to the increased workload entailed in the need for moderation. I will welcome this break. So many have been complaining about moderation and the quality (or lack thereof) of the threads posted, particularly in the general discussion. This is an option that Ben and Matt are choosing to explore, so more power to them. This site is still what we make it.

There was no 'General Discussion' on the original org and that worked very well.
With all the nonsense that's been going down on this site over the past few weeks is anyone really suprised?

Aerogram said: Even some of Matt's replies to his extremely unpopular Shausler decision could be called flame warrish
Some of my replies may have been a bit flippant, but none of them were intended to be abusive. What happened to "just ignore it" or "send an orgnote"?
Good idea in theory--"ignore it" was my standard response when people complained about certain news items at the old .org--but it seems not to work very well on the Internet. I guess it's just too easy to fire off stuff and send it around the world by pressing "send." I've done it myself sometimes and later regretted it. 6. The reaction to the locking of Shausler's thread was overwhelming. Now other threads had been locked before with very little or no controversy. I make restrictive decisions in my work all the time, and I have learned that when one of my decisions turns out to be extremely unpopular, it's not the time to cover my ears and look away or get all offended. I try to find out what was different about it, why it was met with such venom, and I listen with as much detachment as I can muster. I don't go around quoting Mel Brooks, saying "It's good to be king." Oooh... I know Prince.Org isn't a paying job, but that's immaterial if you care about the quality of your decisions.
None of us said "it's good to be king"--that was someone else responding to one of my posts. I followed up by suggesting that being a moderator is more like a janitor than a king. You're correct in suggesting that the Shausler incident raised some issues about moderation for me, Ben, and the rest of the prince.org staff to consider. It's unfortunate that it happened the way it did--I still really don't understand why people got so upset about it--but that's water under the bridge now. Hopefully we'll all learn something from this. For the record, I do stand behind my decision to lock Shausler's thread. Sometimes being a moderator (or having any other position with responsibility) requires one to make unpopular decisions. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Also, if the people running said television station don't like the content that is being presented on their station, or they get a lot of complaints about the content from viewers they can choose to eliminate the programs or people on those programs. It goes both ways. I agree that this site is what we make it, even thhough I don't post very often. I haven't posted in 2 months before all this happened. Very few people here can say they have never engaged in or encouraged these types of posts. 3. Conflicting signals part 1... When Ben said Pook was funny when he came back from spamming OKP... what was that? When he replied favorably to a thread dedicated to poking his outbox... what was that? Even some of Matt's replies to his extremely unpopular Shausler decision could be called flame warrish - hey, even I, of all people, practically ignored disparaging comments made about me by replying only twice, and let me tell ya I had a lot more to say. What happened to "just ignore it" or "send an orgnote"? I guess the desire to defend oneself from personal attacks can be quite overwhelming. 3. Conflicting signals Part 2... Pook response to Ben's "Pook is funny" comment was "it's official!".. or something along the line, implying it was condoned or tolerated by Ben himself, Ben did not say "NO! Spamming OKP would be unacceptable!" Instead, on another thread, he said something like "let's hope OKP sees this for what it was... a joke." Yeah.. but isn't this also a way of saying "spamming can be just a joke"... including on the Org? 4. Conflicting signals, part 3... The OKP thing was allowed to float around for two weeks or more. I had been one of the few that said "watch out!", but from all the reactions, I concluded that I may have been a little too serious. I mean, even Ben was saying it was just a joke, so I thought I should lighten up and I did. Now I know some think "they have real jobs and can't monitor this place 24 hours a day...", but the OKP threads were absolutely starring anyone who visited the GD forum in the face, so I doubt they were hard to find and to close. AS THE LEADER OF THEOKAYPLAYER INVASION (AFTER REALPOOK WAS KILLED IN BATTLE)THE POINTS THAT AEROGRAM EXPRESSED PISSED US OFF THE MOST. No offense, but if you wanted to discuss only Prince, there were other forums for that. Why do people keep complaining about the lack of Prince topics in the "General Discussion" forum? If you wanted to discuss his music, you have the "Prince:Music" forum for that.If you wanted to discuss his Music Club, there is even a forum for that too.The "General Discussion" forum was created to discuss OTHER topics that may or may not be directly related to Prince (at least that's what I think it's main purpose was). To those of you complaining about the "General Discussion" forum...I bet most of you spent more time on that forum than ANY other forum on this site! Tell me I'm wrong:) I spent more time on GD than any other by far. This was simply because the others are barely active and I like Prince. It was the only active forum on the site, that's not to say I thought it was a good thing. Thank you Essence. I could try to post on a music thread and wait 3 or 4 months until someone responded and that's only if the thread didn't get buried.
