WHY FREE SPEECH IS BANNED HERE IN THE ORG

As i have commented for years, this place has become over moderated. Who has the right to lock topics which are doing no real harm.
I am also annoyed that mods like Handsclapsfingersnapz can get away with saying words such as 'Bullshit' - see the Revolution 3121 thread, when normal users would get warned for using such language.
She is also very inflamatory and divise and moderators should not be like this. In fact moderators shouldnt even post IMO, because it removes their supposedly objective nature.
I think she should be demoted personally.

This is a free unbiased site, ITS AN EXCELLENT resource, therefore why on earth are you locking forums. This is not an authorial site in the way of NPGMC but its becoming over censored, even more than there judging by the posts i've read.

since that particular thread was locked before I had a chance to rebut "handclapsfingasnaps"-
i will use this thread to expound upon my thoughts(before this thread get's locked!).
I asked handclapsfingasnaps a very simple and reasonable question in that thread, her retort to me was-and I am quoting,"Bullshit".
now,I don't know how old handclapsfingasnaps is but I am a 42 year old woman!I don't appreciate being scolded like that!
the thread was then locked by her other moderator friend before I had a chance to respond!that is not fair nor just!
If you are going to talk down to people here and scold them, you should have the spine to hear their retort.

What you don't understand is that it's ok to use harsher words to comment ideas. What is prohibited is personal attacks... and this thread sure qualifies.

there is no personal attack here.
just a commentary on the state of moderation here at the org.
if anyone feels personally attacked,I am sorry, but I feel it is only fair to get both sides of a story.
and, moderators should not curse at the members here.

1. handsclaps isn't a mod here anymore.

2. her response, while some people may consider a word like "bullshit" to be profane, was directed as opinion and not as a personal attack. people can say "bullshit" here. it's how they choose to say it that can sometimes be put under a microscope, just like anything else. in this case, i don't see how she's insulting you. can you break it down for us?

3. contrary to what sometimes seems to be popular belief, a privately-owned web site is not obligated to adhere to constitutional free speech standards. this does not mean that the owner and the mods of the site have free reign to do whatever we want, because the enjoyment and patronage of every user on the Org is necessary in order to make the site a success, and it would be foolish to dissuade a forum of reasonably free exchange because it would drive discussions to other boards. still and all, "free speech" extends only as far as ben's opinion of what that should be, via his rules and the mods' interpretation of those rules. everyone is allowed to be part of that process, but nobody is allowed "free speech" in ANY forum that is privately owned. think about it.

4. if one wanted that thread to stay unlocked so one could have an opportunity to give another orger a piece of their mind, perhaps locking that thread was a good idea, because it sounds like it was headed for locksville, anyway.

Anxiety..

IF Handsclaps isnt a mod then why on earth does it say Sr. Moderator under her name?
If she had been removed from the role then surely you should have removed that title too.
I know free speech isnt something sites have to adhere to, but all this overmoderating is strangling the org of creativity.
I dont think you should tell one user off for saying 'bullshit' then not discipline your own staff for breaking the rules.

If i want moderation, i'll got to the NPGMC, although even those mods are more liberal now.

This place only needs like a few mods like it used to have. I mean i dont mind it having mods if they earnt their title, but as far as im concerned most ppl who are mods here are just fams like us and so i dont agree they should have 'power' over us.

Handsclaps once again demonstrates her rudeness with her Oprah reply.....i think the only suitable course of action is for her to apologise or give her a warning.

What the hell do you want from the mods, that they should be ex-employees of Prince? We're ALL "just fans" on this site. rolleyes

Dansa didn't flame you, she had a personal opinion. I have one too. Bullshit! biggrin

simple--ben's the one who handles all of the "handles" underneath the moderators' names. we can't remove 'em at our own free will...and just because the sign's still there under my name doesn't mean you can just lay into me like you've been doing for the past 2 years (yes, it's been that long).

I know free speech isnt something sites have to adhere to, but all this overmoderating is strangling the org of creativity.
I dont think you should tell one user off for saying 'bullshit' then not discipline your own staff for breaking the rules.

just because i call something bullshit doesn't mean i'm breaking the rules; there's nothing anywhere in the rules that says that we can't show disdain towards the ideas of others. only when people start showing disdain towards the person who shares the said idea--as you're obviously doing here, btw--that's when your ass will get chomped on by the mods, and rightfully so. there's a difference here. figure it out already. as for creativity being strangled, i don't feel a bit hindered at all. i can be myself here, just as long as i follow the rules of the roost. like i've said before, it ain't that hard to do so.

This place only needs like a few mods like it used to have. I mean i dont mind it having mods if they earnt their title, but as far as im concerned most ppl who are mods here are just fams like us and so i dont agree they should have 'power' over us.

and why not? i think that having fellow orgers volunteering with moderating the site is an excellent idea. would you rather have people who know fuck-all about how those on the site interact with each other on a daily basis, or people who actually do? i know who i'd rather have.

as for "earning" titles, every mod volunteers their time to the site. if folks feel the need to help out around here, they ask ben if they can do so. it ain't something that you "earn". get that straight.

Handsclaps once again demonstrates her rudeness with her Oprah reply.....i think the only suitable course of action is for her to apologise or give her a warning.

rudeness, schmudeness...all i'm doing is trying to diffuse a situation that would end up getting both of us kicked off; thing of it is, i don't feel the need to resort to petty flame-baiting in order to have my voice and opinions be heard. i've got a cool head about all of this and i actually know how to handle myself, cusswords intact and all.

now lighten up for once, man. it ain't that crucial. neutral

hammer ...but this edit is!

if people take it in the wrong way, sure, but i'm not a rude person--if my manner of speaking is perceived as such, you might wanna learn how to pick up on one's mannerisms a little better.

ya know what in defense of Handclaps,

for one most of ya'll take this place way to fuckin serious, like its the end all be all.its simple if ya dont like the way things are done or handled u have a few options, im sure most of ya'll have a door that leads outside ( OMFG outside?.. perish the thought). get some air in ya lungs, go outside live amongst the Universe and try not to think about " hey i wonder whats happening on the org, i shoulf get home expeditiously. Handclaps IMHO has to be the most coolest Mod,besides Anxy. those 2 in my opinion should be the only ones moderating.

some are way to heavy handed with moderating.like if they dont get the joke its immediately locked and the user banned etc.etc, what she does and says should'nt be taken as rude or against anyone its just who she is and she will not conform to anyone trying to change on who she is. she's fought this long to get to where she is. to not be bothered with people who bitch and moan on small shit. so get a grip take a deep gawd dayum breath have a coke and a smile and chiiiiilllll

I agree with you 100%. I get this mental image in my head of some orgers. Sitting in the dark, in their little rooms, constantly posting while the real world outside passes them by. It's quite sad to think that this is real for a lot of people here. Makes you wonder how successful they are at maintaining relationships in the real world.

your talking about life here right? and not the org, right? cause if your talking 'bout the org then your statement contradict itself....

you could also reverse the principle players here in your argument and it would still hold true.

I don't see the big deal with locked or removed threads...it sucks when I am discussing a topic and it's no longer there...BUT I MOVE ON! Life is way too short to get one's panties in a bind over a locked/removed thread. I mean really! How much conversation is left in most of these threads anyway? I believe the topic at hand was "is this fake" answer "yes it's fake"..and before it gets out of hand it gets locked before the org gets pinned for starting false rumors and shi...oops and stuff.

I am just your average orger and even I know HCFS is no longer a mod AND iI figured out that Ben does all the web work. It doen't take a genius to figure this out.

I have to say this sounds more like a personal thing than an Org site thing. I read between the lines a lot...and peoples motives are usually obvious from the get go. For the record...there is very little that gets locked or deleted compared to what doesn't and usually the topic will crop up again with better behavior towards the subject...so what's the big deal?
