Sometimes I am ashamed of The Org... I love the freedom here. Truly do. But I just feel ashamed when I encounter threads like the Sexual Misshaps-thread I just encountered in General Discussion today.
It makes me wonder...in what way does Prince Dot Org want to be known inside of the Prince community? I know it is my own freedom to click on these threads and/or ignore them, but I am sometimes so ashamed of the level of weirdness I encounter here. If it is a question of freedom, why would Org want to be asociated with people who feel the ened to share this kind of info online? Just because Prince has been sexual explicit in his lyrics too? That seems too easy, even to me. This is not meant as a flame-thread to the people who post on these threads. More power to them, I just am curious why a forum, dedicated to Prince's music, should be a stage for what I consider to be immaturity. I mean, 14 year olds come here and have to wade through this... What up, Org?

I think Prince.org is known as the most alive forum, because of thread's like that - housequake and princeobsessives.crack both stay off these kind of topics like the plague. It's partly to do with the peeps they attract - HQ attracts Europeans, and we all know the dutch have so much vice there's no need to discuss it. Whereas here we have yanks and brits predominantly - basically, a bunch of confident cynics - so the conversation is different, and, well, more outlandish.

I realise it is a people's forum build up from peeps that love Prince music and this I love. It is why I post here... Is the immaturity (I have been guilty of it too, in the past) the price one pays for freedom? I want to be tyrannical every now and then...

The immaturity comes from the brits - we love toilet humour. But it's fun to be retarded sometimes - I'd just say fuck it - no one knows about my sad addiction so I'll carry on posting as normal. You shouldn't be ashamed of the org, you should be ashamed that you post on a prince fan forum where the fans actually meet up

princeobsessives.crack I think it's better if orgers can share what they want to share with as little moderation as possible. I am not the thought police and I don't want anyone policing my thoughts.14 year olds have parents and it's the parent's responsibility to chose what their child is exposed to, not mine. [Edited 8/23/05 13:23pm] In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Moderator | I guess I just strongly believe in this:
Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Well, as another Mod pointed out; this aint no democracy. So don't quote no amendments to me.

I said MORE powers to people who post threads like that.
I am just trying to figure this all out. It also has alot to do with HOW you give form to your thread.

No it's not a democracy... but my faith in democratic values effect how I moderate, and how I think moderation should work. Right either there's a GD forum or there isn't, but to censor certain topics which do not violate the site rules would be ridiculous. Years ago I said there shouldn't even be a GD forum because I felt this should primarily be a Prince site. Now I'm actually quite happy it's here and it's the only forum I post to (except for an occasional post to site discussion), but then again I'm not really interested in any Prince related topics anymore. IMO this site stopped being a Prince site a long time ago. Most of the posts and threads here are non-Prince related. I think that should be a bigger concern than the sex related threads which some seem offended by. Nothing in GD has anything to do with Prince, so IMO Huey's question should have been "do we need a GD forum or not?". When Ben created this forum based version of prince.org that automatically meant he was handing over more control to the people posting here compared to the old org. He set the rules for posting here, so as long as posts don't violate those rules I guess this is how Ben wants it to be. Edit: typo [Edited 8/24/05 1:21am]

I don't think the sex talk on here is shameful.
What's shameful is when people attack each other....and others join in just for the sport. Especially when most of those people wouldn't do shit face to face. Inside the Fleshofmyflesh is the Soulofmysoul
