when taking actions within a forum that they moderate....i just want to clarify that last statement....

if a moderator isnt willing to self-censor themselves in a manner that benefits this sites community then maybe that moderator isnt fit to moderate on this website.

if dansa needs to tone it down, then i suggest we draft a set of new rules of conduct with very specific rules and punishments, and that we even consider non-profanity rules and deleting posts and banning users who are overly critical or negative toward prince. after all, he's not only why we're all here, but he's a human being too.

and i'm not being one bit sarcastic about this suggestion.

obviously we should *not* limit speech on this site in regards to site visitors..but i agree, that might be a good idear for the mods....

why shouldn't the visitors hold to the same rules? i'm talking about everyone. this is, after all, A COMMUNITY, with all that a community implies.

rudeness is rudeness, across the board, bottom line, no matter who's doing it. and being rude is wrong. nod

i'm not being sarcastic. not in the least. i don't understand why we should behave differently than we normally would just because we're moderators, when unsavory behavior is hurtful regardless of who displays it. this makes no sense to me, i don't understand it, and i won't accept it unless you can put it into a perspective that suggests some kind of logic or utility.

i'm serious about this. all or nothing. we've heard all about what you think is wrong. i've suggested two ideas in which we can make things right. both times you've dismissed my ideas as sarcasm. where are your solutions?

and ive posed my solution..dansa needs to knock it off..but she doesnt seem to think that there are advantages in doing that now does she?

and im not buying that your statements arent sarcasm because your not addressing the orgers here with extreme alternative options. just mine. hmmm..i wonder why?

i don't know why? paranoia? boxed in feeling? i don't know.

if someone smacks me upside the head, i don't care if it's a cop or my boyfriend or my mom or my boss. i'm gonna be pissed off at whomever does it, and i'd rather none of those people smack me upside the head.

so. if one of us is ordered not to be unpleasant toward others, everyone should be ordered similarly. where is the illogic in that? where is the sarcasm? i'm completely serious about this.

i'm far from the problem, man. like i said, there's far worse going on elsewhere than what some razor-minded moderatress on a fucking fansite says and thinks.

you've broken the #1 unspoken rule when it comes to dealing with day-to-day customs here: never ever let other people's perceptions on things get you outta whack. this IS a website after all.

yes it is, but arent you getting outta whack when you get soo frustrated by newbie questions that you have to curse out your screen and self-moderate yourself?

actually it never gets to the point of me cursing out the screen. i'm not the type to do so.
my goodness, its just a question. let them ask it...whats the harm to you? obviously there is some that youve gotten soo worked up and emotional that you have to be rude when taking moderation action..and you say that rudness is self-censored?

eh. you don't seem to understand me, and perhaps you never will. i've grown bored with all these threads about what's wrong with this n'that so i'ma drop outta here on two notes:

1) wanna talk about stuff? my orgnote door's forever open.
2) Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.

And hug times 1000 for sosgemini who took all the effort to try and talk to people who don't give a fuck. I'll lay it out there right now; I think Handclapsfingasnapz should step down as a moderator since she has absolutely no interest whatsoever in helping out newbies, in fact she despises them. That should hardly be appropriate in someone who should be impartial while working with the users on the site.

I contribute with my twocents to newbies, I'm not in the chat much any longer but when I am I always end up helping newbies with the chat, how it works etc.

yawn alright, since i'm up & awake for the day due to a couple who lives down the hall from me who think the idea for wakin up in the morning is to wake up angry at each other, therefore kick each other's ass in the hallway out in front of my apartment door, i may as well come here for a bit before i'm off n'out for the day. teach, there's an interstate-wide difference between hating those who are new and simply being annoyed by some who are new. have a guess at which i fall under--hint: it's not or never the former.

i still help those who are new, have absolutely no problem with doing so. but when you've been 'round here for as long as i have some people work your nerves. unfortunately as of late, some of the newer people who come on the site are included. y'know how many cats i've either had to pull aside and deal with or ban altogether? not every single newbie is here on good terms. that, and it's absolutely a chore and a half for me and people who visit this site daily to deal with those who are new and ask the same questions over and over, ad nauseam, and there's no functioning search engine or properly updated FAQs to steer folks towards. i'm currently doing my part to help alleviate that problem so the snatchiness towards newbies actually may be curtailed, at best (y'know how people dunno how to quit here sometimes), by having folks help out with answering oft-asked questions that i'm gonna put together as a new FAQ sticky/permanent link pretty soon.

instead of hopping on the omnipresent "that mod is horrible--off with their head!" bandwagon, how's about actually knowing what's going down as opposed to reacting to something that you read and treating it as the absolute gospel truth? being pissy towards newbies doesn't start and end with me or any of us other mods--in the beginning and in the end, everybody here plays a part. be the change YOU wish to see in the world (and cyber-world too, since we are online here). and before you cry foul on all i've said, don't take me for being mean. i'm simply being honest here. that's how i work. displaying honesty, brutal or otherwise, is by no means a violation of site rules.

i remember having a lengthy debate with Ian about perception once.....This sorta reminds me of it.

The fact of the matter is perception is much more important then reality. If people percieve that they are being treated rudely it sorta outweighs the original intent.

Many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our point of view.”

My bad if I misinterpreted your tone in your posts, but I still argue that expressing your brutal honesty in your feelings for certain newbies, then you should very publicly wear a sign around your head stating that you're not acting as a mod. How about having two separate account levels for mods - one as a mod and one as a regular user? That would help to not blur the line. I can just say that if I were a newbie, getting crapped on by somebody being a Sr. Moderator of the site, I'd feel pretty useless and feel that I wouldn't have a chance at blending in. twocents

actually the "senior mod" sign i've got only means that i've been a mod for over a year, it doesn't give me any sorta extra-clearance of any sort. i've always thought of myself as a plain ol' mod as well, fuck the "senior" shit. makes me feel old. lol the separate account idea is kinna good, but it'd be kinda tricky to work with--what if we mods had separate accounts like that and somethin started blowin up on the boards? we'd keep on havin to switch over to our mod accounts continuously. it'd be like clark kent forever running back and forth to the phone booth to change into superman. eek

falloff @Superman!! I realised the problem as I was typing it, but I'm glad you sorta realised what I meant by it anyways. I know what the Sr. Mod means, but the newbies will have no idea. That's what I meant, that their perception of the Sr. Mod will make them even more boxed

And of course there are stupid newbies, but weren't we all once? An updated Q&A is a splendid idea, y'all mods make several and bully Ben until he makes them available wink

yeah...there should be something added to the FAQs that tells what each of the mod "names" mean so people would know that...
