I think it's strange that there can be hundreds of different posts about some of the most asinine things. I check the "latest headlines" and real threads are few and far between.

Then, if somebody brings up a thread about a interesting and relevant topic that is already being discussed, they are locked and told to go to the first thread that ever remotely dealt with the topic.

Case in point: when I wanted to read a thread about the NAACP awards, I had to read through ONE LONG POST THAT WAS JACKED LIKE 3 TIMES. Meanwhile, I could go to the General Discussions forum and read one of a dozen threads talking nonsense about poo, dick, daily news I can get off Google, etc. Now, I have absolutely nothing against poo dick daily news and even etc. But it's getting annoying to have to wade through the junk to find the one thread with enough unrelated posts on it to be its own forum.

if there were a bunch of threads on the NAACP awards and one of 'em had a kajillion responses, and the rest all only had like four or five posts, which would you wanna look at first?

well, i know that with the michael jackson court case threads, they have a new sticky thread every day or two, so the post count doesn't get way out of hand. i think that's a good idea.

i will say that i think having central threads for big events or incidents is a good idea. i will also say that i see two problems with this:

1) when the number of posts makes the thread a pain in the butt to open and scroll through; and

2) there's always the possibility of wanting to get "too" organized, and in the process we might end up locking some good sub-topic threads that could certainly stand on their own as forum discussions.


this stuff is all work in progress, folks. i know it's frustrating when it's not all 100% user-friendly, but we're trying our best to make things better.

I am a huge proponent of the concept of the General Discussion forum. I thought the original Love, Sex, Relationships forum was a great idea.

However, I never thought that the inane "chat" style of the org would become so saturated in the community that the "Prince" focus would be SECONDARY (some would say even further down the list).

have you thought about starting up your own site or blog or mailing list that is designed more in step with the way you want things to be? nothing's stopping you, ya know. or maybe you think you have what it takes to join the moderator team here on the org, and you can get in touch with ben to share some ideas about how you'd clean the place up to create a more dauphin-compliant org.

That's kinda the point. When events occur that would warrant large amounts of Prince related posts, they get regulated to ONE THREAD. Meanwhile, there can be a dozen threads on the Newest Thread page about Cock Warmers.

It's simple:

You'd think that on a Prince themed website, and one that was THE PREMIER webspace for Prince related conversation, 5-10 threads about peoples reactions to the NAACP Awards is a heck of a lot better than 5-10 threads about fake boobs.


You're showing your priorities as a moderator, and rewording the "well, we don't care for you so can just go" stance shows plenty. I don't expect the site to completely submit to my every whim. IF I did, I would have been bitchin and moanin a LONG time ago. Instead I just tried to stick with the forums that would generate quality discussions. But now, it seems that more and more of those threads start great, and then denegrate to personal back and forth banter that veers from the topic.

You've shown how much you're willing to tolerate. I'm noting that from where I sit, that level is pretty low, Low enough to discourage a LONG TIME member from wanting to visit the site on a regular basis, and instead I get "Yeah, well, who needs you. Go start your own site."
