Was that thread really shut down?

Yeah, it got locked up cuz some people found it "offensive" or "ridiculous." That thread was on fire, but I guess it mattered not.

It was one of the most hillarious threads I've read in a long time.

Maybe I should start complaining about all the heavy Prince ass-kissing that I witness around here. That can be quite offenseive to some.

Seriously, though, I can't remember a time I've reported a thread/post of yours. I've never been a big reporter (except of one person who isn't here anymore), I tend to either fight it out on a thread or orgnote personally. I've done it to you (like my replies on this thread) a time or two, but it's all good. I didn't read your Prince-on-drugs thread, and offhand I'd say it's too bad that it got shut down, it sounds funny. But apparently, some people must've gotten out of hand with it so it got shut down. Probably not cause of YOU, but because of how other people dealt with it. So, start it again or something. Try again and hope that people don't fuck it up.

I cosign EWM's complaint.

For example, why must people protest popularity threads?

I mean, what will it get them? More popular?

I don't think so.

okay, so, if we're going to model this site after the non-existent 'democracy' that has been repeatedly pointed out as 'not the way this site is run' (but for the sake of argument, let's say it is), shouldn't we then base the content of this site on the standards of the relevant community?

what may be considered normal subject matter on a fred phelps site may not be considered appropriate to people on a marilyn manson site. what's considered appropriate on a MM site may not be considered appropriate on a prince site.

i mean, that happens in a democracy, right?

So why keep any thread alive? I bet you most of the threads in the GD or P&R can be seen as offensive by some. So why not shut them all down? Make the site as sterile as possible and no one will be able to complain about offensive material.

Obviously that wouldn't work, so instead you guys pick and choose what you want to remain on this site. But please tell me what the harm is with some threads like the "Prince on drugs" thread. How exactly is that any worse than George Bush being like Hitler? Is it just a matter of "Prince bashing= BAD, and Bush bashing= Good?" And I didn't even bash Prince, I brought up a topic that hasn't really been discussed before and a lot of people had something good to contribute.

And sometimes the mods say they shut threads down because they go off course. Well that happens on every thread. It's inevitable. People will always bullshit about all kinds of crap. And sometimes people get into personal jabs and such, but that's inevitable too. If they they get shut down on one thread, they'll start again on another.

So why not lighten up on the thread locking and deleting? It's already understood that some contain material that's not safe for work, so a warning label was a step in the right direction. So instead of shutting threads down, how bout putting more warning labels on threads that may be seen by some as being "offensive" according to your standards. That way, if people continue to open them, then that's really their fault if they get upset.

All I'm saying is that a lot of good threads get shut down and I don't think it's necessary. People report their anger to the mods because they don't want some people to have fun. They want to feel like they had a hand in pissing off others. They need to chill out and learn how to ignore the things that they don't like. Having an "offensive" thread posted in a forum should have absolutely no bearing on their lives whatsoever. No one is forcing them to open a thread and read the content.

I know there's no democracy here, but I think an adjustment in this matter can make things easier and more enjoyable for everyone.

I would just like to discuss harder edged issues without getting a gag order. I'm sure a lot of people can relate. All the time people say how shitty censorship is, and how people should be free to express themselves. But then they turn around and bitch when they see people enjoying a thread that they find upsetting.

It's crazy.

That's cuz some people have their heads all the way up their asses. It really takes a special breed of human to continue to complain about what others do. The world would be so much better if some people would just shut the fuck up and let others be.

You know I have no real problems with you EWM. Often times I find you quite entertaining. I just have to say the bolded part is REALLY funny coming from you.

Most of the conflicts I've seen between others and you on this site stem from your incessant complaints about things/people that most others enjoy. I think the lesson (that I see) of these ongoing conflicts is that if YOU would just quit complaining so much that you'd be more 'tolerated' so to say. For example, if you weren't on almost EVERY Prince thread COMPLAINING about him, you may be better heard when you wanted to start an actual discussion. Just sayin...

It's just kinda odd to read posts by one of the primary complainers on this site complaining about people who complain.

OK- that last sentence was crap, but hopefully it made sense. smile

Maybe I'm getting lost in Semantics.

DO we mean rational as in "can be understood" or "rational" as in normally agreed upon as the right way to view things. (Go ahead guys, break out the dictionary and shoot me down--I don't care. rolleyes )

Becuase if Evil posts something that is not normally agreed upon, so what of it?
I seldom ever agree with Evil on politics (not that I hang out in the political arena) but I'm not the tought police.

As far as what is offensive--well, it takes alot to offend me, but (sounding like a broken record) I personally do have a line.

I understand what you're getting at, but my criticism of Prince doesn't effect him in the slightest. It's certainly not causing him to lose record sales or for Paisley Park to shut down. But if I create a thread, someone complains to the mods, and the thread gets shut down, then that effects me and the enjoyment that I have on this site. I have no power to shut Prince up, but orgers have the power to shut me up at times if they make enough of a stink. So it's not the same.
