Not sure if this has already been brought up or not, but you have to leave the chat in order to see if you have any org notes, or to send one, etc.

Can you add that functionality on the chat menu bar?

If you get a new orgNote while chatting, it will appear within the chatroom. You just click on the "new orgNote" part and it will open a new window for you.
