I'm curious - filing sharing

I hope I don't get deleted or banned but I am curious. How come we can't share files and ask for music from eachother? Just wondering. I've heard things discussed on here I'd love to see (like prince on chris rock show) but those things aren't allowed. What the reasoning?

Basically, because Prince has such a tight control over things.

Since his pathetic and childish lawsuits against several fan organisations in the late 90s, Prince has continually slapped the "collective" face of his long-time fans.

A lot of other artists aren't so insecure and strict with their fans. I do think it would benefit Prince to be a little more forgiving with his fans.

He wouldn't benefit directly from the sale of a Kiss 12" selling on ebay, but that fan would benefit from hearing Love or $. Now if he wasn't so uptight about it, there could be an atmosphere where fans could openly trade such out of print material over the internet, i.e. mp3's and such.

I guess such rules are there to ensure the website is not used as a channel for facilitating potentially illegal activity, which might result in the website owner being threatened with legal action.

got it! see there is always a good reason for something. Cuz I was on Ben Harpers site and there are tons of live videos, just great stuff people are sharing. And it dawned on me that over here I have never seen anything posted and then of course that big warning label that appears. biggrin

Thanks for shedding some light! PRINCE SUCKS...in this regard. neutral

There are several online 'communities' sharing Prince material, it just has to be kept 'underground' because of Prince's litigious fetish.

Of course Prince doesn't run this site.

But file sharing is a potential breach of copyright, and Prince's lawyers have previously threatened legal action against other websites for allowing or practicising such activity.

So it's clearly not in a website owner's best interests to permit such activity.

It is his music/intellectual property.
If Prince chooses to keep the things tight, then so be it.

Prince is an artist and one who is paid for his art. Prince has the right to keep control of the songs, videos, etc. that he makes. If you do not like how he controls his property then you should avoid anything to do with Prince. But making the remark "Then he should keep it to himself" is totally bizarre.

HouseQuake never allowed the sharing of official material (p2p/mp3/cdr etc) due to the obvious potential for litigation. At one time there was a bootleg trading section, but after threats of legal action from Prince's lawyers that was stopped. AFAIK (as I have never been a member) TRH does not allow any official material to be shared either.
All orgnotes and emails requesting trades or how to acquire bootleggage will be ignored. - The ThreadKiller -

What's so bizarre about it? I'm sure at some point he enjoyed making music so much he WANTED to share it with people. Most artists only get so concerned with the legal aspects (rights, intellectual property, blah, blah, blah) cuz they've been raked over the coals and are sick of seeing someone else get rich off their talent. Don't get me started.

He was asking for P on the Chris Rock show - at HQ they share vids that have been on TV. Must b a loophole or something.
