Sick and tired of the HOMOPHOBES in Prince.ORG

Over the past few weeks, Prince.org has become a haven for childish, ill informed, negative, homophobes.

Threads spring up on a daily basis which either Gay-bash from the outset or end up (through design or happenstance) provoking responces which are rude and derogatory to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered community.

I am so sick and tired of this that I am looking for a better site. It will be a shame to stop reading and contributing to Prince.org but unless the contributors grow up or, better still, are banned I will no longer feel comfortable with having any association with the site.

So, who knows of a site which gives the same level of news coverage, but without the socially challenged contributors?

confuse

am I missing threads?

are these in the P&R forum?

I know there are a few homophobes on this site, but I haven't felt uncomfortable here in YEARS.

If anything (and if you don't know- I'm queer as the day is long) I'm getting a bit bored by the huge number of "gay topics" in the GD. I love that the straight boys love us, but I think the threads about it are getting a bit outta hand...

Yeah, the ones I am concerned about (and have reported) are generally in the "Prince: Music and More" forums.

Thakfully, many of them have been deleted or locked. The latest two to get right up my nose were:
"In The Closet?" - asking if everyone who is a Prince fan is Gay because he is obviously such a 'fag' - now deleted
and
"Princes's gayest video?" - asking in which video his movements, wardrobe or make-up were most gay - now locked.

oh, i see. Well, I hope you don't let a few idiots spoil your experience here. Hopefully you've noticed that the majority of the site IS NOT this way and there are a number of outspoken GLBT folks AND "straight allies" who will quickly knock the homophobes down...

When I first read this thread, I thought, why would someone consider cancelling their account here at the org because of a couple of ignorant posts that may be hostile toward the glbt community. But now I understand. Some of the posts in some of these forums are flagrantly inappropriate and I dont blame people like mysty2k for wanting to move on.

I.m.o you're seeing homophobes that aren't there !
Nobody here on this org is homophobe !
I think you're wrong for reporting those threads ;

What is wrong with topics like ; "In the closet"
or "Prince gayest video" ?

In the thread you reported called "In the closet"
there was a newbie (guess it was a really young person)
merely asking if Prince fans are gay (because people told him they were)
You have to understand , for some youngsters it's important to know
what others think of him , and the kid apparently
didn't want to look gay , or whatever

In this case i think
you'll just have to excuse the kid that started the thread
because he doesn't know better , we all have to learn in life !!

The other thread you reported was called "What is Prince gayest video"
Was there ever in that thread a post that was degrading homosexuals ?
No there wasn't !
(i read the thread)

I think you need to chill smile

Btw , how can a Prince (a man that's so outspokenly feminine , mostly) fan
possibly be a homophobe ?!

If you can't see what is offensive to homosexuals in a thread asking which is "Prince's Gayest Video" then you are part of the problem. Sorry, but that is how I feel.

I think the problem is the language used. Most of us have grown up in an age when "gay" was one of the ultimate slurs that could be hurled at a kid. For those of us who've been on the site for a while we know that when someone like (for example) AsianBoi says "that's so gay" that he's doing it in a tongue-in-cheek manner. Once you've been a regular around here, you get to know the personalities of people and know what's ignorance and what's intentional humor.

That being said, it can be tiresome when there are repeated threads using this type of language. Even when started to be humorous, they often attract ignorant responses.

I'm not Mr P.C. so I rarely take offense and when I do, I just report the thread or call out what I see as being over-the-line. BUT, I will say if threads were springin up using hurtful ethnic slurs in a "humorous" way they would definately be locked down in a quickness. For as far as we've come with acceptance of the GLBT community, it still is somewhat acceptable to trash our community.

Course, we (the GLBT community) lead by example and as long as we continue to use this language with each other, it can only be expected that others will do the same.

lol alright, I'll quit being so serious now. lol

Why can't women be offended by homophobia? Having said that, I haven't witnessed any such cases on here. Prince is an artist whose style, music and fashion covers and attracts and is accepting of all types-no matter what sex or race. As such, the many people who visit this site reflect that.

Personally, there is a limit though. I feel such threads are rather laborious and on the whole not even funny in their lack of unsubtlety.

No? Well how about...

"Kiss is pretty faggy."
"You're right. Prince is a Glam Queen. GAY." "Definitely not sexy at all.. I think only a gay man would think so."

But anyhoo, I won't dwell...

Another thing , why do you get offended ?!

Yeah, apart from the guy who starts his repsonce with..

But, those observations aside, it is time to draw a line under this.

I am happy to see the generally intelligent way people have responded to this thread. It has partially restored my faith in the Org.

For my part, I'll stop jumping at threads which I think will have a theme that will annoy me. I'll try and stay dispassionate.

But, I do have to say that just because I am not a guy doesn't mean I can't be offended by language which, in my opinion, is a slur on homosexuals. I'm not a man, but I am lesbian.

Besides, you don't have to be part of the community being slurred to be offended...

And lastly, there is a degree to which it is open season on the GLBT community in a way which is unacceptable in other areas of life... for instance you don't see threads like "In which video does Prince look most like a Nigger?", "Why don't Kikes like Prince?" or "Old people don't like Prince because they are all senile fools".

So, I'll stay on as a member (as anyone gives a shit either way) and keep up with the news, reviews and some of the gossip.

Yours, chilled,

Dee
