Seeing a lot of moderation from Matt makes me wonder... A while back you said that you were gonna semi-retire from moderation, but lately there's been a lot of work that could be done by other moderators but that you have taken upon you. Has your feeling for moderation changed? If not, it might be hard for the other mods to know when to step in or not? Just a thought.

i haven't had a single problem with the way matt's been moderating. if he finds time to do mod duties every now and then, i don't see what the problem is.

That's a fair question. When I decided to "semi-retire," my basic thinking was that we now have plenty of mods, and my services are not necessary most of the time. However, here's the current situation in prince.org Site Discussion: Officially, there are four mods assigned to this forum: Ben, Deja, June7, and me. But Ben does very little moderating per se, as he mainly attends to stuff "behind the scenes" (e.g., the site software). And unless things have changed recently, Deja is currently without a computer at home, as her old machine died. Now, June7 does a fine job moderating, but like any of us, he can't be online 24/7. Since Ben has made it clear that the 2the9s issue is absolutely not open for public discussion, I felt it was important to shut down those four threads ASAP. Other than the Site Discussion forum. I've pretty much let the other mods handle the other forums. The big exception thus far has been November 3rd (the day after the U.S. elections) in Politics and Religion. That forum was in a state of chaos, and we probably set the record for most moderation requests made in a day. And I was the only mod online for most of the day with the ability to moderate P&R. So that we could maintain order, and so as not to leave the other mods with a huge pile of mod requests to handle, I stepped in, watched the forum for most of the day, and handled the mod requests as they were submitted. As for your concern that "it might be hard for the other mods to know when to step in or not"... all mods in a given forum (except for Ben) are equal. There's no need for a mod to consult with me or any other mod before taking action. Now, to be sure, when it's a difficult issue, it's helpful to get input from other mods. But my moderation (or lack thereof) should have no effect on other mods' decisionmaking. And with all that said, in three weeks I begin preparing for the Washington State Bar Examination, so you can expect to see less of me for two months. Thanks for your post... I hope this addresses your concerns. Greetings from Indiana (again I'm reminded why I left this state ), Matt Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

What a great answer.
Although, personally - I felt this is one of those questions that could have been orgnoted to you, since it's a direct question to you.... |
