Some Recommendations for Neighbor Ben

Hey Ben,

Congradulations on the awesome update. Hope you and Val are doing good. At anyrate...Ive been checking things out here for a couple weeks and overall I am really impressed by the work you have done...I just thought a couple minor changes might make the the flow of the threads a bit easier. I know you had mentioned in a previous post that you were going to be adding new things as time goes by, so I figured i'd through in some ideas at you.

1). Add a "View all new post" link... www.rottentomatoes.com uses this option..Its awesome, you can scan through all the new posts/threads without having to go threw each sub-category. This is also great to keep interesting threads alive...instead of searching for a thread to find out if someone has responded to a comment you make..you click "view all new post", if your thread pops up..you know people have responded.

2) Bring back the edit button....why clog up space by having to make people re-post just to explain they errored in typing. Doesnt make since.

3) Add a "Last Posted by" section..so not only do u know the author of a thread..but also the last person who posted to it..and what date.

okay, thats all i can think of at the momment. awesome job...keep it up!! you've created a wonderful campground for the funky funky fan base of mr. purple..

ps..thanks for not once using "fam" on the site....

My mistake, must have been removed with the bug fix. Ben, can we expect this in the future? Or is it history?

Oh oh ohhh!!! One other thing I forgot to mention...For each thread include a key to "jump to first unread post"..

This way..when your dealing with huge ass threads (like the where are u from one) you can keep up with the new threads. As is, expecially since the threads are arranged in chronological order, you have to click from page to page to find where you last read.

just my suggestions...do as you wish..the site still rocks!!

OK...

1. the edit link is supposed to be there, but apparently I still haven't got this fixed. will fix it FOR SURE tomorrow.

2. "view new posts" yeah this is great, but I haven't figured out exactly HOW to do this "right" yet. most messageboards have a pretty retarded way of determining when you "last" visited, and resetting things. thinking on how to do this!

3. search by username (or whatever): this is definitely on the to-do list... probabyl, go to someone's profile, can click "find posts from this person" link there, and also a separate "search all posts for words..." page, too.

4. there is a last post date shown on the thread list, but not the author. might add that, but it could be a big database change to make it not a performance problem, so then again, maybe not. will investigate!

Thanks for the suggestions, all of them I know about and plan to work on in the future... hang in there for a bit smile (but keep the suggestions coming...!)

Well, #3 should be available now, unless I misunderstood you... you can see when and who posted the last reply on a thread from the thread overview page.

Also, I *hate* that 'fam' stuff, so you won't see ME using it! smile

hey ben... a couple more recommendations.....

1) can you create a line that appears above AV signatures/qoutes... Sometimes it bleads into the post making it sorta confussing..

2) could you consider making it so that a threads entire post is visable when you respond to a thread topic..right now we can only see the original thread, which makes it hard when you are referring to specifics that someone has posted *within* a thread...i know i know, you could just qoute someone....but a lot of times, your just looking for the name of a poster (not the text)..other forums I have visited will allow you too see the last 25 or 50 responces (plus the initial post)...

3) and finally: OFF TOPIC OFF TOPIC OFF TOPIC wink

im out...hope your having a killer weekend..unlike me who is stuck at home on a friday night due to an early freakin appointment saturday...errrrr

This is now done; the whole thread is visible, in reverse order when replying.
