New FAQ's in the works Yes, the FAQ's hosted at prince.org are in serious need of an overhaul. And after consulting with Ben, I've come up with a five-step plan for doing it:
1) I need to update my own library of Prince-related materials. In particular, I need to order a copy of UPTOWN's new book THE VAULT. 2) The next step is to read the current FAQ's carefully and make any necessary changes to bring them up-to-date. 3) Step three is to add questions (and answers) that seem FAQ-worthy. This will allow me to create a "first draft" that I'll circulate among the .org staff for comments. 4) After revising my drafts in light of comments from other .org staff members, I'll release "beta" versions of the new FAQ's on the .org for public comment. (I'll post the new draft of the alt.music.prince FAQ to that newsgroup as well.) 5) The last step is to generate final versions of the new FAQ's, get them up on the .org, and resume monthly auto-posting of the General Prince FAQ and the AMP FAQ to that newsgroup. (I turned it off when the FAQ's started getting really outdated.) I'm sure that some of you have suggestions for the new FAQ's. Please hold them until I release the beta versions for public comment. I'd like to fix what we currently have before I start adding new material. Estimated release date? I don't know.  But seriously, I'd like to get this project done before the end of the year. I'm looking forward to the finished product(s), and I hope that you are too.Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Because the way the .org is set up, it's hard to do it any other way. Just about everything is based upon threads. For instance, "the latest news" on the home page is created by listing the most recent "featured" threads in reverse chronological order. I suppose I could have posted the announcement and immediately closed the thread, but then I'd probably be accused of inappropriate locking. How about a list of albums to get in what order for new collectors, i.e. a "P.Org Recommends...". We could do a poll or something to compile the list. Maybe it's dumb but this q is asked nearly every week in PM&M...   I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it | |
