Missing Thread?

How and why did that thread on the murdered hostages disappear without a trace?

Yes. How does a thread just disappear? Does the thread starter just delete it, or is it a mod issue?

Just our of curiousity, when you decide that a thread has devolved and should be shut down, is there a way for you to close it instead of simply deleting it?

Altough I don't disagree with the decision to shut it down, I find it a little frustrating that it was deleted, since I actually did take the time to engage in a meaningful discussion at various points before Neversin and others took the discussion down. For instance, what if someone had linked to a relevant website or made a unique argument that wasn't included in another thread? For those reasons, I'd just find it a little better if a thread like that was closed, so that any intelligent discussion (if any existed) could be continued somewhere else, or referred back to for reference purposes.

Closing it would also allow you to explain why a particular discussion or group of comments were inappropriate, so that people would understand the rules better. By simply deleting it, it becomes more difficult to understand what crossed the line--and whether something I had said was a part of that.

While I understand mods don't have time to police individual posts, I just think closing a thread would be better for all involved (assuming the org system has such a function available for mods).

Just me twocents Thanks for listening.

I guess it just boils down to the content of the thread...some stuff just doesnt deserve being viewed.....other times a lock will suffice...a lot of the times people are simply quoting a flame again and again and i just dont wanna waste my time editing all the crap out...

hopefully we will catch stuff quicker so that good debates/discussions arent lost...

my bad!!

Are you referring to pictures that were in the thread?

As a side note (and perhaps you were just referring to offensive comments, not pictures), I think it would probably be a good thing if a new rule were created that pictures of death and severely injured people should not actually be posted in threads--instead links to such pictures should be posted. I don't really see it as appropriate for people to use "picture ambush" in threads. It should be up to each user to decide if they want to view such content. A person should be able to participate in a discussion without having to have pictures of blood and gore constantly thrown in their face.

It injects too much emotionalism into the threads in my opinion. Again, just my twocents. Keep up the good work as a mod.
