Welcome to prince.org 2.0!

You know, when I started the first little bit of code for 2.0 last August, I had in mind a much smaller project... just a 'facelift' for the site. It turned into a lot more than that... (by ben / Sun 17 Feb 2002)

"Shipping Charge" Waived 4 ATL Ttickets
Many reacted quickly and negatively 2 the $19.50 "shipping charge" they they were billed for pre-sale tiickets. NPGMC acknowledges this error and waives it. I got the following e-mail:

High NPGMC Member,

As u know, the concert passes u bought from r site 4 the Atlanta concerts r all Will-Call only. A shipping charge was added 2 ur order due 2 an automatic process in the Retail section. But we wanted 2 let u know that u will not b charged a shipping fee and we r crediting it back 2 ur account.

Injoy the show!

Eve covers "Irresistible Bitch"
Eve started recording her third album, and she's done "Irresistible Bitch".

Here's the relevant part of the article:
"[It's] called 'Irresistible Bitch,' " she said. "That's a Prince remake. We're hoping to get Prince on the record. I don't know if it will happen. But it's hot. It's different, it's a dance track. It's definitely dance — it's not regular hip-hop, and I love it." (19 comments)

NPGMC mentions Bernard Allison
The NPGMC site was updated with a mention of Benard Allison, a blues performer. [link]
For those who might not know who Benard Allison, here is a review of his last cd released in 1999. [link]

(Keep in mind, this might be someone Prince has his eyes on to perform at the Celebration. At the end of April last year, he was making cryptic messages on the npgmc site towards Nikka Costa, who did end up performing at the Celebration.) (3 comments)

I miss the old org also. I come here less and less now. This is a Prince forum, why do we have threads like, "What would your name be if you were a porn star." Threads like that have nothing to do with Prince and should be deleted. I miss the news also.

The old org was much more confined which limited a lot of the discussion to the various news items that were posted. And in a sense, that was a good thing because it tended to keep everyone focused on the topic of Prince and Prince related items. But at the same time, I believe the old org also limited fans from really expressing the true depth and breadth of their feelings about Prince and Prince related items because unless the discussion could be linked back to the particular news item the deeper discussion on some of the issues got buried and lost within the various news post.

The new org though is great for fans that want to get a very detailed discussion going on very particular issues, whether that issue can be linked to a current news item or not. But on the other hand, the new open and free forum opens the door up wide to a lot crap that isn't related to Prince and therefore, most fans don't care about. Some will say, "well, just skip those threads and go to another item"... and that's true, but what I've found is that several new "unimportant" threads will start, then you have to go back and try to find the threads that you were interested in tracking the discussion. And sometimes that can be sort of difficult and a hassle.

On top of all that, Prince.org used to be the definitive news source for any and all things "Prince". The new org has definitely pushed news to the background in my opinion. It seems that most people are more interested in bringing up general topics of discussion rather than talking about real "Prince" news.

But as they say on Cream, "I guess I got a personal problem..." smile All things considered though, this is still a great site.

well, I dont think we can blame the org. for the lack of news..I think people are posting the news on their own and that is the reason *news* appears to be reported less.....maybe ben should post the news thats found throughout the threads...but then, people would b*tch about dublication....

some people are just never happy.....

and re: posting threads

well, the old .org felt like it was a place to "worship" Prince..the new site is a place were people who have one thing in common (their appreciation of Prince) can talk about commonalities or discuss and debate issues related or not related to Prince...

ohh, and to answer your question..do i miss the old org? HELL NAW!!

I truly miss the old org. This place feels more like a regular message board, with the poster having a common bond... that we enjoy the music of a certain artist.

The news was the reason I would visit and to read others posts on the news or, if it was a boring news item, reading others posts that were off topic. Now it seems reversed...I get to read off topic posts and, if I'm lucky enough, somone kindly sent in a news item!! Now I feel like I'm in a coffee shop, where all the patrons have some sort of interest in Prince or like the comic section took over the newspaper.

Plus, I miss seeing DavidEye and CalhounSq post. Rarely do they post now. And, this new org made Calhoun a little bitchy. wink

Or as one reader of this exercise in simplistic trash put it:

Please shoot me if I ever spend money on something like this, March 6, 2002
Reviewer: ronc@daystarnet.com from Chicago, IL United States
A primitive and preachy parable, lacking any depth or creativity. The point that 'change is inevitable, so adapt and succeed' is made with all the nuance of a sledge hammer. It was all I could do to keep from gagging. And the author further insults the reader with an equally awkwardly contrived intro of four friends 'discussing' the Cheese story at the beginning and end of the book, which he tells (in this non-fiction self-help book) as though it really happened.
My biggest concern is for what the popularity of this book says about the intelligence of our American business community.
Thank God, I only read it on loan.

Rather, read this: http://www.amazon.com/exe...14-7611356

So why do people notice a change in the provision and delivery of news before and after the change? Presumably because people do not now send the same amount / quality of news, as was previously the case, or they send it in a fashion which finds it sitting in a discussion thread which is difficult to trace and nigh on impossible to search against

Who says prince fans can't accept change (anymore or less than other people)? Many replies here recognise and I suspect welcome some if not many of the changes which the latest version of the org provides. However, there are clearly people who also valued part of the former org which is no longer of the same standard.

This simplistic attitude that people who complain before and after change are incapable of accepting it, is often rolled out in change programmes but rarely of value. Change never delivers the perfect answer, and rarely brings with it improvements in every category. Some things get better, some things are left untouched (deliberately or by oversight), some things change with no discernible improvement or deterioration, and somethings suffer.

My guess is that once Ben et al have addressed the inevitable 'technical teething problems' that come with such a change, and have caught their breath, they will be considering what has worked for the better, and what hasn't - hence, this forum. They won't be particularly interested in which lemming has 'accepted the change', because that sort of feedback lacks value for the future.

uhh,,,yeah, thats exactly what my post was trying to say...i need to stop waking up and trying to post..it always ends up incoherant....

I miss the old news section too because ...

1) you always knew everyone would be lurking at the latest news topic, or could tell by the number of posts which topic was the latest hang out spot.

2) We'd just have fun and run threads up to 300 or 400 posts. Man, that was fun. I miss those days.

Now eveyone's scattered. There's no real online watering hole. And can you really even have lurkers anymore?

3) Plus, with people able to start their own threads, its gets a little too psycho/freaky around here sometimes.

Of course I get nostalgic every now and then for the old org, it would be good sometimes to see that familiar purple on black...

But if given a choice, I think I would stick with the new one, it does have a lot of added features, and yea if the news aint the same, you can't blame the org... maybe the threads divert people's attention from the news... I don't know, some of the threads incorporate the news etc.

But yea, while I do miss the old org sometimes, I am perfectly happy with the new one too...

Remember as Prince said "If nothing else, things change."

And I think on the whole, this was a change for the better, so embrace it, and what about the old org? Letitgo!
