mod assignments (if that's what you call it)

I am just curious as to who is to be monitering the behavior in the chat. We had a dirty mouthed, offensive mouse in there last night who insulted gays, insulted me on a personal level and continued in with just about everyone in the chat for almost 4 hours. I know that people exchange words and I am very guilty of that in the past and sadly, in the present. This person was like the infamous Bill. lol Actually, she was worse, if you can imagine that at all. Others in the chat did say they were going to report this person, but I just want to know who we should go to when this sort of thing takes place. I have org noted two mods about another situation and neither has responded. Not being disrespectful, just very curious. I know others have been banned for and warned about making homosexual comments. Someone should at least tell this person that behavior is not permitted. I will not offer names until I am asked to do so in an org note. Can someone at least answer my question about who takes care of these vermon?

I have seen the mods post to things like this before Dianne, they usually just say to put the offensive idiot into your ignore box.....

I've done that before, Chris. That doesn't change the fact that the things are being done. If someone posted something offensive in the forums it would be removed or they would be warned or banned. It's happened in the past. What makes this any different?

you raise a good point.....maybe we need to assign a mod to review complaints from within the chat.....

im not saying have a mod stay in the chat 24/7...well, maybe we could force luv to do it.. lol

but seriously, maybe create a "report to mod" action key within the chatroom or something....

as of right now i would think all types of misbehavior within the chatroom should be directly reported to ben.....

and i apologize to you for not getting a proper responce when you made inquries in the past.....sometimes its hard to respond immediatly...im sore the two mods you orgnoted have been a bit busy with their personal life and didnt have the time to respond with the attention and care that they feel you deserved.....

let me say this though, the rules of the site are to be followed within the chatroom...any users posting innappropriate comments run the risk of losing site access...

thanks for taking the time to reply, sosgemini. I was just thinking that had anything remotely close to what is said in the chat was posted in a forum, the thread would be locked, removed and that person would be warned or banned. The chat is no different. I do think that a "report to mod" button is needed there. The person that was attacked about their sexuality is one that has been on this site for a very long time. He asked that someone take the time to mention what had happened. I don't even know if he had done so himself. IN any event, thank you for taking the time to respond.

I think a 'report to mods' key would be a good idea. There are enough mods running around this site, I'm sure there's almost always at least one on hmmm

Mods don't (currently) have any special powers in the chatroom.

If someone is way out of line, orgnote or mail me, and include at least a partial transcript. Include what date and time (according to the homepage or the chat timestamps) this occurred, and the usernames involved. I will follow up and take action as necessary.

I'll try to automate this a bit in the future with a "report to mod" thingy, but that may not happen for quite some time.

uh, no Tessa. I am telling you that had any of the remarks that are made in the chat been posted on a thread, it would be locked or deleted and the person would have been warned or banned. Are you telling me you think it's ok that someone make homosexual statements in the chat? If this is so and we should just turn our backs on it then I feel sorry for you. If it's something that is said to me, I can handle myself (trust me wink ).

Thank you Ben. The person was attacking every other chatter in the room except for the one person that was joining her. I am not the only person that she was messing with and I am the last one that was going to say something about it. It was mentioned by 2 others, but I guess I am the only one that did anything. Well, maybe they too wrote to a mod and they hadn't replied. shrug In any event, thanks.

funny how some can point fingers but yet not look n a mirror.... ty for the adivce ben ... just hope it does not have to be used.... we are all adults and should act as such... if we don't like what is being said there is an ignore feature and there is an exit as well... for the most part there are not many problems n the chat... if so its usually worked out .... but again we are adults and should act as such.....

I am not going to react to that comment, KD. This only shows that you have issues. Let it go...and use the ignore button, stop attacking. How's that for being an adult. Please, if you have nothing positive to add to this thread, then take it elsewhere. This thread is about making comments about another's sexual preference, not about the issues between you and I. Now, grow up and go play.

what's wrong with homosexual statements?

if you mean statements that are homophobic... well, certainly that's crude, mean, ignorant.... but then, that's what you get when you go into the chatroom here. it's the oldest interactive feature of the site, and has been that way for as long as i can remember. i know you've been going there for quite some time now, and i have a hard time believing that you haven't developed a thicker skin than this in all that time.

You know that I have been going there for some time now? hmmm Funny, I don't ever remember chatting with you as "Tessa". I have very thick skin. I have NEVER witnessed anyone say the types of things that woman was saying to the guy. Anyway, I am not going to argue with you or anyone else about the appropriateness of homophobic statements that are full of ignorance and malice. It's uncalled for and I have never witnessed it being allowed anywhere on this site. End of story.

aight folks.....

nobody should feel uncomfortable visiting any portion of this website.....so please keep your "grow a thick skin" or "be an adult" comments to yourself..

the fact of the matter is this site is visited by those who want to create trouble for others and will cross the line of appropriateness.....

a question was asked about moderation, the question was answered and now its time to move on...

enjoy tuesday!!!!
