(Is it legal?)Should moderators be allowed to post or respond to discussions in the forums? I don't think they should be allowed to respond to discussion unless it's pertaining to rules. Besides, it's a little intimidating to most people here. What do you think? I'm thinking this is a violation of our rights.

If moderators couldn't post, there probably wouldn't be anyone or hardly anyone willing to be mod.
I like and trust the mods. I can see why they were chosen, and I am not just trying to kiss up. Maybe you should give a more in-depth explanation of why you feel how you feel.

"freedom of speech" on a web site only extends as far as the webmaster's sensibilities and preferences. if that's something that bothers you, you can always start your own web site. until then, when in rome...

You may not like to hear this, but you don't have any "rights" in the legal sense, on prince.org, or most any site for that matter. I like to provide a pleasant place for everyone, but if you think it's a democracy, that is an illusion. This is a (in my opinion benevolent) dictatorship...! Yes moderators can post. Yes they can make smart-ass comments as appropriate to their demeanor on threads, even before locking them. They're here to participate, to set an example of following the rules, yes, and to help enforce the rules as well. Doesn't matter what anyone else "thinks" about the situation, that IS the situation. And I belive the org is a better place for these policies. Besides, 99.5% of the time, no one has an issue with the moderation, so it's gotta be working out pretty well. ben -- "the prince.org guy" |

After viewing all the threads posted on this subject by CCII, my questions are these:
Why are you here if this bothers you so much? What site has Mods that don't post or engage in conversation with other members? Do you think this is a paid position? In any case... I hope this is the last thread I read having to do with "rights" you think you have here... I think ben cleared it up pretty good... It's a DICTATORSHIP, and we are merely the King's Men (or women! )... next topic, please. |

moderators NOT being active participants is a bigger problem than them joining discussions. though i'm not going to name names or sites, but it seems like moderators who actually participate in discussions do a much better job of moderating than those who don't. those who don't, often have no context for people's personalities or even what other moderators see as acceptable and come into a that's par for the course and start shutting things down and deactivating users.
moderator participation should be encourage. no, strike that. moderator participation should be mandatory. "I don't need your forgiveness, cos I've been saved by Jesus, so fuck you."
