Interest in wiki

While reading through scififilmnerd's great post concerning the various configurations of Come, and BorisFishpaw's outstanding contributions, it struck me that it could be pretty cool to have a wiki here at the org. I don't know the origin of the name "wiki", but the basic idea is that documents are created and edited collaboratively by the members of any group. Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/w...8artist%29 for a good example.

The difference from the threads in the forums is that rather than seeing one ginormus conversation about some topic, which will eventually be pushed beyond the first page of threads as it loses interest, the first thing you see is the current draft of the document that (hopefully) covers the facts fairly concisely. So, for instance, perhaps a document collaboratively edited by scifi and boris, and anyone else, listing the various known configurations of Come, along with the stories behind Prince's decisions.

I have no idea if anyone is interested in this, let alone scifi or boris, but I thought I'd throw it out there. It seems like we have some very knowledgeable people here, and I would love to see more their information archived in some way. Oh, and I'm sure Ben has time to work on the feature wink Also, there would be the option of just using the wikipedia site above (anyone can edit the Prince documents, you don't even have to create a login), but it might be cool to have as a part of the org.

This would be an amazing resource. I've got a huge paper for my film class due next Friday and - ta da! - had my topic approved today. And duh, it's on Prince. So I would love to have a wiki thing for academic purposes, if nothing else.

Good idea. It shouldn't be too hard to add, since we already have a Wiki on the site in the moderator area. Ben, what do you think?
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.

Interesting - yeah... but knowing the group here, I doubt it would stay on topic or the information would remain serious (if that was the topic) or even factual... and the fact that anyone could edit it makes me uncomfortable too.

I love the idea, though... just not in love with it. confused

Hopefully there would be a knowledgable group who would pick what they liked to be included, and weed out the off-topic discussion or knee-jerk reactions that always ensue on the org. Borisfishpaw would be a wonderful pick, imho...

I'd like the record to show that I would provide both the off-topic discussion and knee-jerk reaction.

I understand your concern about the fact that anyone could edit it. There's always the possibility of sabotage or just the posting of a lot of junk. I don't know much about the administrative side of things, but maybe it could be set up such that the person originating a document could allow or restrict other orgers from making modifications? That would take care of the sabotage problem.

The matter of staying on topic and weeding out the junk would probably require more monitoring, which of course means more work for the moderators (and/or more moderators). Maybe a strict policy of "you mess with this stuff, and you're banned from messing with it anymore!" would help smile

Informal mods (like banana, who only deals with the gallery) would be cool. Or, it could be handled like a news item, and the mods could deal with it on the side - adding/deleting when suggested.
