Prince fan in a vacuum!!! Help!

This is going to feel like a personal ad, but here goes:

30 year-old, married with one kid (2 years old), living in the Chicago burbs who has been obsessed with Prince since he was playing on a playground (at least since "1999"). I don't seem to have any friends who get excited about Prince the way I do...they think I'm nuts and change the subject to something else. If I want to talk about Prince, coming to a site like this is my only option, but I don't have time in my busy schedule to devote hours in a day to reading chatroom posts (though I thoroughly enjoy any time I CAN spend here...).

Looking for someone with a similar life to start some friendships...to have someone to bump into at a Chicago concert so that the experience is even more fun...to expose me to a deeper level of Prince fandom.

I look forward to having some "Prince friends"!

Isolation in Chicago is unacceptable. Start by heading over to http://www.thedetroitcrawl.org , they have a monthly event in Chicago and can hook U up with other purple people in Chicago. It's some 10 hour drive away, but we're having a big Prince party in Toronto on May 23rd, the URL is http://www.purplelectricity.com . Good luck!

Thanks for the tip, MadeUpName. I'm not sure the 10 hour thing is an easy deal when you have a wife and kid, but Chicago is not that far away...hahaha.

Anybody else in the Chi-town burbs?

Thanks again. I've heard of this but have never gone...I work so early on Monday mornings. I'll have to brave it and try it out sometime though at least for the sake of making connections.

You haven't been to Prince Night in Chicago!!!!!

You are missing out. I've been going since the parties were held at Aftermath in 1994. The club was closed down because alcohol was served to some minors (not on Prince Night). Samnation, the D.J. found the Berlin Nightclub for us and we get in FREE (must be 21 to get in) since our parties are on a Sunday night.

I usually have to work Monday morning and leave the club (walking distance from my pad) at midnight or 1 a.m. There are a lot of people that live in the burbs, especially around Country Club Hills (south burbs) and come to the event since it's only once a month. You have to come on April 25 even for a couple of hours (club opens at 8 p.m.) because we will all have on t-shirts from the Champaign, IL Musicology concert. We usually sit around for the first two hours watching the Prince movie/concert of the month and through out the night talk, dance, and drink. Berlin has five video monitors and Sam mixes up the videos and music throughout the night.

If you stay until closing 4 a.m. (they really kick us out at 3:45 a.m.), around 12-16 of us go over to IHOP and eat breakfast before heading home. I only hang to the end three times a year (when I'm off work on Monday).

So, get a babysitter for a couple of hours and come party!!!!!

Wow, incognito! This really sounds like a good time. I live all the way out in Naperville, but the party sounds worth it.

My wife would have no interest in going (makes me sad) but I'm schooling her by bringing her to the concert. She didn't go when I last saw Prince (the NewPowerSoul show at Aragon Ballroom) and I want her to develop an appreciation for this since it's so important to me.

At any rate, I'm sure she wouldn't mind if I went to the party once in a while! And if she's jealous...she should be coming with!

I'll try to drop by. Thanks so much for the info.
