Going To Paisley Park In a Few Weeks - A Couple of Questions....

Hey Everybody!

I really wasn't sure where to post this but I'm hoping that my fellow purple brothers & sisters can help me out here...

I'm going to Paisley Park for the first time in a couple of weeks and I'm doing the "Ultimate Experience" tour. I know you can get your pic taken in a few of the rooms during the tour along with recording a vocal to your choice of a few Prince tunes as well. The website states that these experiences can be put on a USB drive that you could purchase for $10.

The silly question is this: do you have to purchase the USB drive before you take the tour or is this all taken care of at the conclusion of the tour?

Also, while I'm at PP, what are some things to take special notice of or look out for while I'm there? This'll be my first time at PP, shoot, my first time to Minnesota period. Besides First Avenue what are some other "Prince" type things I can see/visit while I'm there?

I'm also a big Paul Westerberg/Replacements fan so if there are any fello 'Mats fans on this board that could point me towards any 'Mats places of interest I'd be eternally greatful!

Mega Thanks and Cheers in Advance to any help I can be given here! icon_biggrin.gif

Who's the private d*ck that's a sex machine to all the chicks?
Who's the man that would risk his neck for his brother man?
Who's the cat who won't cop out when there's danger all about?

get you some amazing barbecue (beef ribs or chicken) takeout from Ted Cook's on E. 38th, near Hiawatha Ave... its kind of a hole in the wall, but the smoked flavor of the meats is magic in your mouth....thank me later

Don't forget to visit the house from Purple Rain. From what I've heard it's reletively easy to find. Also, the Electric Fetus.

Also, the Hard Rock Cafe there still has some of his costumes that he wore on stage in the 80's. The food is supposedly crap, but that might be cool to check out!

Have fun! smile

Lake Minnetonka isn't that far from PP either and you HAVE to purify yourself in it (or at least stick your toe in like I did!)!!! You should purchase the USB drive at the beginning of the tour, as you will need it when you get the picture taken and when you record the vocals to a Prince song. I believe you will also get to hold one of his guitars (unless a few idiots have ruined that as well with their behavior) in one of the rooms. Ask where the hidden room full of videos is (it should be the same area as his editing 'office'). Please note that his urn is in the atrium area. I'm only mentioning this as there have been quite a few folks that did not know this and were quite upset when they were told that this is his place of rest now. Make sure you walk along the sidewalk in front of PP and follow it down under the road. This is where the tunnel(s) are and you will be able to view all of the messages that fans have left that are written on the walls. There are three tunnels and each have writings on them. I hope that you have a great time there and be sure to dance yo *ss off in the club!!!!

Also go to the 'Uptown' district as there is a definate vibe of freedom there (which is why Prince loved it so much) and there is also a great mural painted on the back of one of the buildings there. Ask around and someone will be more than happy to help you find it.

I went last year and did the VIP Tour. Back then you got to see some extra stuff and take a picture. The only vocal thing was on certain days (I think Thursday?) but I wasn't there that day.

So don't know if your tour is different or they just renamed it.

But as I recall you bought Drive First I think. I don't remember. I know they took the picture, and I got a USB drive and I paid $10. I'm not sure the order of it all.

My visits to PP date from Sept 2017, so I don't know if this info is still up to date or not, but if you take the Ultimate Experience tour, the price of the USB stick is already included in your ticket. The vocal recording in Studio B however, was not part of this tour. You could only do this when you took a VIP tour on a Thursday. (On www.officialpaisleypark.com it's mentioned it's also part of the VIP tour on Sundays now.) The price of the USB stick on which they put that recording and the pictures is not included in the ticket for the VIP tour. They ask you if you want one at the reception/beginning of the tour. (Again, they may have changed this in the meantime, but if you'd like to practice : back in Sept 2017 you could chose to record a part of "Cream", "Raspberry Beret" or "You got the look" wink )

(When I went to the Hard Rock Cafe I asked them if I could just go in and have a look a the Prince items on display without actually having a meal and they were perfectly fine with that wink )

I hope you'll have a amazing time in Minnesota !

Dunno if the org. allows for direct copy & paste from the official Paisley Park website so here's the direct link that takes you to the "Tours" page and explains what each one consists of:

Thanks. They didn't have "Ultimate" when I went.

BUt we did get to see some video footage as I recall.

  • In addition, the Ultimate Experience will allow visitors to enjoy a private screening of exclusive video footage in Paisley Park’s editing suite.

For me, just inhabiting the same places Prince went as a regular guy was special. Definitely go to graffiti bridge--it's the bike path tunnel directly in front of Paisley that goes under the highway and a nice walk to Lake Anne Park. Thousands of tributes there, and the knowledge that prince often rode his bike on that exact path, felt that same breeze, heard the leaves rustle.

When I went to PP I wrote my personal eulogy and read it to him, silently, by the urn. I also knew where the elevator was covered up in the wall (basically, it's under the stairs on the right as you go in) and stopped there with my hand on the wall to say a prayer for him. I thought he would appreciate that.

But here again, that was me. I got thru the sad stuff and moved on to celebrating his life. Bunkers was awesome, Sencha tea house, First Ave, various murals all over the city. People's Organic is a restaurant, it maybe its two, owned by Prince's chef, I've heard great things about those. Chanhassen Theater, which he often rented out, Lake Minnetonka, of course (missed that one myself last time, but plan to see it next year).

I'm not sure if they're always available, but a local tour company runs bus tours of Prince sites that will save you some driving.

For a change of pace, Mall of the Americas is mind-boggling. That where Hard Rock Cafe and a few Prince items are located.

Lots to see in Minnie!
And the MUSIC continues...forever...

Just to add, the one thing that surprised me the most (pleasantly) was the Purple Rain house. I wasn't going to go but some people gave us a ride there. It was REALLY cool. People put Prince-related stuff on the porch and around the house. The day we drove by, there was some Cap'n Crunch on the porch.

And one Prince's sisters happened to be there. I didn't talk to her but some others did. So you never know!

Do the after dark dance party!! It's a blast!!! And totally off the Prince topic, but a nice little place to visit is Minehaha Falls. Not far from the mall of america. Really pretty there!

We went to the Falls when we were there, too. It is a nice little area, very pet friendly also as we saw tons of people out with their dogs. We ate at the big seafood-oriented restaurant in the park and being from the state of Washington was pleasantly surprised to see that the oysters they were serving were from WA. biggrin

Actually, might be Prince-related. I don't have time to find it right now, but if I recall correctly from a recent Susannah podcast (the one where she calls him a "sweet boy"), she and Prince used to grab a milkshake and go to the falls. She said he'd tell her stories about growing up.

So, being the nerd that I am, I copied everybody suggestions into a Word document and printed it out to take with me. Thank you to ALL of you for helping me out here! If we ever meet up somewhere then the first round is on me!

This is going to be a rollercoaster of emotions for me: Happiness, sadness, sensory overload, excitement, curiousity and everything else in between and I sooooo can't wait to get there!

Thank you to all of my Purple Brothers & Sisters here at the .Org! biggrin

Cheers,
