I'd like to know what music is being used in the Amsterdam Exhibition. Is it the same as the one in London ? Anyone knows ? Aparently the tour only works with a headphone set...

I'd like to know what music is being used at the Amsterdam Prince exhibition.

Is it exactly the same as in London ? (didn't see that one)

I read thath the tour works with a headset.

(Knowing that Prince made thousands of tunes...)

What do they focus on musically ? What is to be heard exactly ?)

Can you really see (a) full live show(s) ?

Do they focus on just his most popular era ? Is there something new to discover musically ?

Or even new to be heard ?

I don't give much for his parafernalia and awards. Certainly not for 50 Euro.

And can you buy something interesting music wise in the shop ?

(From what I've read and heard so far in the Dutch, Belgian, French, English and German media reviews, the exhibition is absolutely a serious let down from a visual point of view.

"You won't get any information on the human behind Prince" is what I hear the most.

They even don't want to compare it with the 'David Bowie Is' exhibition (which I did visti, and though was OK, nothing more nothing less. It was nice, but not that super waaw to be honest).)

I've been to the exposition in London. I will also go to Amsterdam.

The exposition is focussed on clothes and items (75%) and less on the music or video.

The video's are mainly videoclips of the hits and some live performances (superbowl) but nothing new. The expo is certainly not complete and no reflection of his personal life and career. The main focus is on the 80's period.

It would have been great if some video was shown of for example Piano and Microphone Tour but unfortunately this is not the case. Maybe because of legal reasons this is not possible at the moment?

The Bowie exposition I think was way better. It was much bigger of course and gave more insight in the person Bowie and the music. I also liked the concert footage which was shown on big screens.

Still the Prince expo is a very unique experience and would recommend every fan to go. Personally for me it was a moving experience and something I will remember. If you do not have the money or time to go to Paisley Park this is certainly second best. I would suggest to go for the VIP ticket, because you get to see more and also have to opportunity to hold the guitar he played during

'The art of Musicology' and also get an exposition book with photo's. In the shop there are some items for sale which are also sold in Paisley Park like t-shirts and books.

From what I read and saw they added some items to the Amsterdam exposition (compared to London). For example a seperate section with photo's and info on concerts in Holland and also some clothes he wore during his last concert in Paradiso and Ziggo Dome.

'David Bowie Is' was good.

Not excellent.

(It had far more to offer than clothes and awards.)

But for one, I've never been into Prince's clothes or guitars or jewelry.

Bowie's clothes on the contrary are from a fashion point fo view more interesting. But still not (very much) my thing i'm afraid.

For me it's the music, and the person behind it. At the Bowie exhibition you had the chance to find a bit more out about the man.

Bowie had tha art on many levels. Prince had the kitsch on many levels, but still very interesting.

Though with Prince, I'm far more into the music than anything else really.

Bowie was more open and had less appearances to keep up with like Prince did. All IMHO of course.

Honestly, what's the use of holding Prince infamous guitar of 'The Art Of Musicology' era (with gloves on) ?

((... you know, in 1993 (If I remember correctly), I've had the chance to get (with the illegal help of a crew member, and the local venue security representative) to get behind the stage after the concert here in Ghent (Belgium). He knew I was a huge fan. So, Prince always leaves very fast in a limo after a concert. So it was arranged for me to be at some point right before the concert ended, and with that specific help I got the chance to see 'something!!' I was told not to touch anything, "put this on", and behave normal. So I was able to peep into Prince's (and Carmen electra's) dressing room. Thàt was quite something for a fan!

You really have no idea how bizarre that was. Prince's dressing room had tables filled with candy, sweets, drinks, his extra clothes on hangers wrapped in plastic, his name PRINCE on the door, candles everywhere, lots of colorful textiles, some equipment, a screen, purple couches, make-up mirror, etc. (Unfortunately) his few instruments he had there were already locked in the cases, ready to leave. As was alreadymost of his stuff, placed aside readyto ship fast. I was only allowed to be in there for a minute. And also had the chance to see that backstage machinery (very fast though). But the imagery is still very strongly glued in my mind and memory. Never ever saw any kind of well oiled big machinery and hugeness in my life ! The amount of crew members, everywhere... It must've been one of the biggest Prince extravaganza on tour.

And in an hour and a half everything was 'gone'. Dozens of trucks left.

Crazy huge !

And on the other hand, It felt a bit bitter. Prince suddenly turned into a human for me. Lots of kitsch à la Prince everywhere. Nice and cool and all, but also freakish and it started peeling off the saintness a bit of Prince the artist. Still to this day enormously happy that I had the chance to just be there for a brief moment..

I never met the man though, never did see him up close. And that's good. ))

Thank you for sharing your personal experience. The expo did make me realize how important the complete picture/image (clothing/guitars) was for Prince. Very unique how he was in control of every aspect of his career, besides the music. It was a well oiled machine. It made me appreciate his efforts and professionality even more. During the VIP you will see a part of a dressing room/backstage area which may look familiar to what you saw in 1993.

When I told a friend I held the guitar he said, this would be the closest most fans can come to Prince. I think and saw in London for some people it was an emotional experience. It's very personal and not rational. Probably for you it will not mean that much, but you may be surprised. I was moved by the Purple Rain live video of the O2 concert they showed during this moment of holding the guitar. Hopefully they show this again. The book is great I think, mostly photo's with some text of each period and info about paisley park and the

'memorial fence' My advise, just go, I think looking back you will be happy you had the chance.

Somehow, you build yourself up to the moment. And than with a perfect purple rain rendition in the O2, on the big screen, it exploded for me.

The moment itself passed very quickly, and it's more like petting the guitar than actually holding it, but nevertheless, would not have missed it in the world.

But that Purple Rain redition of the O2 is something I (we) already heard.
