15 bucks for a drink is very un-New Yorkish. We pride ourselves on finding deals. You can go broke in a hurry in this town, no matter how much dough you think you have.

Lucy's Cantina Royal on 34th has daily Happy Hour specials 4-6p.

$3 Coors Lite

$5 Frozen Lime Margaritas

$5 Red Wine Sangria.....Ect

I am sure they would love a group on a Tues night. They don't take reservations, but I spoke with Valerie there. She said that we should be cool to walk in at 4 (Happy Hour is 4-6) with up to 20 people. foodnow

I have classes but I'm heading up from Philly afterwards...I didn't read every single post but I noticed some folks concerned over the prices of the chains close to MSG...I've actually never been to a TGIF but since I'm gonna be there on a budget I was researching some spots in the area...

Empanada Mama is a tasty Latin/Mexican fusion place and it's a 20 minute walk from MSG on 763 9th Avenue. I've actually been here and it's super afordable and tasty. There are also a ton of spots to eat on that block too.

Also in that area is Amy's Bread...they make their bread on the spot and supposedly have great sandwhiches (I haven't been but my friends have). 672 9th Avenue (also a 20 min walk)

If anyone is feeling adventurous Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem is suuuuuuuper delicious, and probably a 10-15 drive from MSG. There's plenty of street parking around there too.

A friend suggested Momofuku Noodle Bar as it is supposedly off the hook and amazing. It's more expensive though and it's south of MSG..but if anyone's up for an adventure it'd probably be worth it.

so i went to the local tgif today in jersey. $8.79 for the app that was $14.99. we got the jd flat steaks for $13.79 that in nyc were $26.99

sbarro and roy rogers are right across the street from msg. i already got my heart set on some pepperoni pizza at sbarros and a sundae at roy rogers...i'd like to check out the H&M store too

that tgif was too far a walk for me. i wanna make it the easiest the cheapest

happy if you wanna walk 20 mins to get mexican so be it cause my stomach ulcer won't be joining you for that, sorry! i don't do spicy.

that noodle bar and amy's bread sound good for afterwards maybe...but only if i can get closer by subway. my feet will be killing me from all the dancing and it's gonna be cold!

considering we went to harlem after both shows a bbq place sounds great! but we got popeyes chicken. i'd love to try ribs out in a restaurant other then just my moms.....

im mad at myself that i was sick and missed dallas bbqs. but i heard the ppl who went saying the streets were packed walking to it and they were busy...

I agree, somewhere cheap would be nice. Pizza, McDonalds..anything under $10...$12 even, but anything over that is pushing it for me. lol

Really? I think $15 for a mixed drink (with hard liquor like rum or whiskey) is not unusual. Martinis are easily $12+. Appetizers/salads for $12, entrees for $15-20 seem about average to me, if you're at a decent restaurant (e.g. not a diner or fast-food chain). It's New York, it's expensive.

Really biggrin After working in clubs/restaurants and seeing the markup on liquor and food, I avoid high priced places unless I'm comped. I think the best food in the area is the chicken and rice truck on 40th and 8th. To each his own. I'm down to go wherever the group wants to meet. I'll be in the Garden with a bottle of Ciroc in my pocket.

Well of course there is a mark-up, that's how people make money. smile But you are also paying for quality ingredients, table service, and atmosphere/ambience. I'd rather pay a little more for a sit-down restaurant where the servers actually bring your food/clear plates than just shove your overprocessed, unhealthy food in a bag or put it on a tray. I'm a vegetarian so chicken & rice truck is out for me; not to mention I would never eat food from a street vendor. ill

The thread is about meetups. You coming out on the 18th or going in on me? I'm just trying to hang and have a good time. Wherever. We could go to the Russian Tea room if that's what the group wants. First round on me.

No, I will not be attending any meetups on January 18th. My comments were in the interest of pointing out that what's considered expensive is relative and depends on the person in this case.

How about Chipotle? Fast food, but freshly cooked and great quality, not expensive, can sit there as long as we like with no one to bother us. There is one on 34th on the next block from the Friday's we were at and there is one on 7th Ave. and like 36th or so.

I don't mind spending money on good food, but with all the great restaurants in NYC, I don't need to spend $20.00 plus tax and tip for a chicken sandwich at a chain restaurant like Fridays.

They have a whole variety of stuff and you tell them what to put in it. You go through a line and tell them how you want whatever you order. It doesn't have to be spicy at all.

OOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!!! Chipotle!!!!! drooling That definitely has my vote. I can eat there all day everyday. Soo good and soo inexpensive for the quality and size of the food that you get! Their burritos are like the size of newborn babies and they have strong margaritas (at least the one by me does). I'm going to see how early I can leave work because the last time I came at the end of the meet up. Let's make a unimous decision because a meetup isn't a meetup when everyone goes to a different place. lol

Chipotle is awesome! It's my favorite fast food restaurante. If I had known there was one soo close to MSG, I would have opted for it the first time around. Great food with both non-spicy and spicy choices and very filling and fresh. Here's their website:
