Also, if we end up in Jack London for chix n waffles, there is an amazing amazing vegan soul food place a few blocks away. For the record, I have no preferences for the weekend. It'll be good just catching up with you all.
Is Mama's close to a non-transfer route Bart? I don't want to make it difficult for peeps. Space for sale...

My favorite East Bay breakfast spot is Mama's Royal Cafe. Their food is awesome. I also like to get Mexican breakfast at this spot in Oakland's Furitvale District, across the street from the world headquarters of the Hells Angles, but I can't remember the name of the joint right now. Another fun thing to do would be to take a cable car up California Street or Powell Street to the top of Nob Hill for a few happy hour drinks at the Tonga Room, the best tiki bar on the West Coast. Then walk across the street and take an elevator to the Top of the Mark for more drinks and the best views in the city (if there is no fog). There is always lots going on during the last weekend in August. There will be tons of events to choose from. WORD! WORD! WORD! WORD! that sounds DOPE!! If we have a lot of out of town peeps, perhaps keeping things local for food and drink might be best. Honestly, I think this is the best advice. I love love love the East Bay and all, but Bob is prolly right about this, y'all. Lunch at the Ferry Building on Saturday during the farmer's market would be really cool, now that I think about it. How hard is it for everyone to hope on a Bart train for 15 minutes and walk a couple feet to a restaurant? Shoot, you all made us non-locals trek to Anaheim during the LA invasion to eat out one night and it was one of the best attending invasions ever. And don't even start me on the night everyone met up outside Largo and *all* ended up at an after hours party hosted by Ms. Badu and stood in line for hours. It seriously isn't about the inconvenience for any of the "invasion regulars"...it's all about the shared experience. Trust me when I say, it's not that difficult. Difficult was travelling to Muse's house (which was a suburb of LA and a good 20 minute drive) LOL...and people still found her house and rocked the ish out. Space for sale...

Not arguing with your main point but the details, The Anaheim trek was because that invasion was dual hosted by Orange county/ LA. Nonetheless, it was the complications and the risks of having people traveling as well as drinking and driving that caused the future format to change. As for Badu, that was NOT part on the invasion but while the Brits who were here 20 days with me.It happened to come up a day before and 4 of us headed there. As for people finding my house, the events including 80% of the attendees were AT my house. My house was the invasion. Every other gathering after that one stayed here and I rented tents etc.... Ex-Moderator | I agree keeping things mostly close to the same area is easiest.
I also would like to spend one chunk of time, at least, out of that main area. As long as we're not trying to travel too much in too short of time, I think it will all be alright. Public transit is not that difficult and for tourists is actually an awesome way to see a city. Just throwing that out there. Again, the itinerary could be hanging out in a paper sack and I'm sure we'll all have a ball. |
