last i heard, lenka is NOT going to be spinning at this event...which is too bad, because i love what she does, especially with prince music!

i might try to pop in for a bit anyway...

This Friday, July 17, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of "Purple Rain," the landmark film and soundtrack which put Prince, First Avenue, and Minneapolis on the world's musical map. Join us on the dancefloor of First Avenue's mainroom (where it all began) for a full night of music!

DJs DAN SPEAK (KMOJ / Soul Technicians) and MIKE THE 2600 KING (Burlesque of North America) will spin all of the best hits from Prince and the Revolution, the New Power Generation, Sheila E, Morris Day & the Time, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, and other Minneapolis funk legends. You'll hear everything from "I Wanna Be Your Lover" to "Glamorous Life" to "When Doves Cry" to "Batdance" to "Musicology" to "Jungle Love" and all points inbetween!

THE VELVET WHIPS will blow the roof off of First Avenue with a hotter-than-hot dance routine set to a Prince megamix cut up by Mike 2600.

Minneapolis' honorable Mayor R.T. RYBAK will take to the stage at 10pm sharp to make a special presentation!

wow... they changed the add on the first ave web site... it used to say prince dance night.. just for that i don't believe i will be attending they must have changed the venue... i was really looking forward to the party.... well like rumor has it they say prince has moved home so i am crossing my fingers toes and arms hoping something will pop off at paisley like the old days..... we love you prince and are extremely happy you came home..... !!!!!

The mayor called this event "First Aveneue's tribute to the Minneapolis Sound" in his facebook status.

I just verified with my friend who works there. It is on for tonight!

I talked to someone at First Avenue and they said "Prince's people" made them take it off their website, but it's still on for tonight!

Not only is it Prince night, it is also MJ night in the v.i.p. room!! Get the funk out!
