We have doing these Princely events since '96. They have always been held around his b-day, and at one time were even called "A Birthday Party For Prince: Celebrating the music of the Minneapolis sound”. Now, with P's feelings about birthdays, it's simply an annual event centered around the music of P. and related artists. Still, we want to bring some media attention to the party this year since it is falling on P's 50th anniversary of life on this planet.

Over the years, we have had radio personalities, guest DJs from out of state, involvement with L4OA, Tamar as a special guest, and many other great highlights. The party has been held at a variety of places with an emphasis on "partying 'til the dawn". This year, we are going for a more universal and more easily accessible location, but with a 2AM ceiling. The location is Scott Gertner’s Sports Bar; an upscale venue about 5 minutes from the Galleria. There will be NO COVER, a fully staffed and stocked bar, excellent food menu, and top notch entertainment for all the Prince fans of Houston and the surrounding areas.

My partner Ant Boogie ( a local musician) and myself, Peter V. (a DJ of 22 years) will be hosting again. We expect local celebrities to join the jam of “Like Minded Individuals” for a great night. We will be spinning all sorts of Prince and related artists’ music throughout the evening. There will be NO DEVIATION from this format. We will also feature “Princely Karaoke” including the MOST complete selection of Prince and related CDGs. I have 99% (if not 100) of any and all Prince karaoke tracks ever offered. The karaoke songs will be professionally inserted with the dance music as to not beak the flow and “keep the party movin’” all night long. We will also have spotlighted performances by a local Prince impersonator who consistently brings the house down wherever he goes. And there will be Prince videos and concerts running as ambient video.

Another feature we plan to have is the Purple Traders’ Corner. This will a roped off area where fams can buy, sell, and trade collectables. Guests will be responsible for their own belongings and money changing hands for any transaction. However, there is on site security so no one should have any hassles. It’s always been handled with mutual respect and as the rest of the event, been big fun for all.

The party was GREAT! Can't believe I stayed until 2:00 AM, that is LATE for an old guy like me, but it was too much fun to leave.
