Question about the MJ vs. Prince parties For those who've gone to these, has any of them ever used TWO DJs, skilled DJs, who are fans of each MJ and Prince both alternately spinning/mixing their music as if it were a competition including extendeds and rarities? that would be hot to see. it would be as if an empty dancefloor would be an insult to both DJs and you'd actually have to have an "intermission" to give ppl a rest. i may have to see if we can get a party like that here in The D.

Dave & Jeff handles our P vs MJ parties here in San Francisco. They spin both rare and extended from both artists. There is no intermissions just a non stop party. http://www.bombhiphop.com/PvsM.html Just Call Me Afrochick

There is no real "battle" or "vs" Basically, they play 1-2 songs from each alternatively. There is a little more emphasis on the Prince as there is more Prince to play. I've been to a few and they were crowded...almost too much to dance. The next one is at Mighty I think, which is a much bigger place.
In terms of DJ's I don't think there is a Prince one and a MJ one. They play both. No intermission. I think MJ pretty much is the "rest" esp when they play something non dancey like Man in the mirror. Christian Zombie Vampires

OMG, man in the mirror? no "ballads allowed" at these parties LOL. ppl just have to rest when they can.
I understand there is no "competition" among the DJs, but do they at least mix? or do they just play a song in its entirety then play the next song?

I recently attended one in Dallas, TX. They are a lot of fun because you get the opportunity to dance to some great Prince music. As stated in the other responses, there is no real competition. The one I attended was done by DJ Spinna. I had never really went to a club just to see a special DJ perform. I guess I am not that into DJ's. But, I understand now why there are special DJ events because this particular one did an amazing job. A lot of Prince rarities were played, as well as some remixes, extended versions, and Prince-related artists. It wasn't just all the hits. The MJ music was cool too. I highly recommend attending one if you have the chance. It is also a great opportunity for a fan gathering too. The highlight of the evening was when the DJ played a funky remix of "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" and a group of us gathered in a circle to all sing out loud and dance. The dancing will wear you out though because the music is just non-stop.

I understand there is no "competition" among the DJs, but do they at least mix? or do they just play a song in its entirety then play the next song? it depends. they can mix songs but sometimes they will fade out and then into the next. Sometimes you have to do that esp. with Prince's music. Of course keeping the flow is important. Christian Zombie Vampires
