Sadly, I've noted that there seems to be a predominant preference for alcohol abuse during the Invasions. This is rather disappointing, not only because of the recent UK media concerns over binge-drinking but also because I'd just ordered 3 kilos of heroin online from a dealer in Edinburgh.
It should be delivered to the hotel so if I'm not there could someone sign it in for me

PS-Do you think this will be enough?

Hotels for Edinburgh Invasion:

This is really an update to my previous post about the hotel, which has now dissappeared wink Unfortunately there has been a problem with the offer that hotel (Afton Town House) had given us, but its still on laterooms for only £5 more anyway.

The best recommendation I can give you now is

http://www.laterooms.com/...&x=33&y=23

Theres loads of hotels on there to suit every price range and tast, including the one I had mentioned previously. Some of them are pretty far away but some are smack bang in the centre of town, so if you dont know what youre doing I suggest you orgnote me or one of the other locals before booking!

And for those of you that want to keep your money for the important things in life, and have no qualms about staying in a (clean, safe and presentable!) hostel, this website should be looked at nod

http://www.edinburghhostels.com/

Theyre all cheap but certainly not nasty, and some have private rooms that still beat the hotels for price. City centre tourist hostel, Cowgate tourist hostel, city centre guest hostel, Edinburgh backpackers hostel and caledonian backpackers are all right in the centre of town.

Hope this helps guys thumbs up!

Edinburgh for tourists

As promised, heres some ideas for the Edinburgh leg of the invasion. We dont have a whole lot of time here but we will get some sightseeing in if you guys are into that sort of thing! Ive not done all of the things n this list, but it seems to be what the visitors are into, so here you go! Theres not much point planning anything until were all here as things will change, people will join us and so on. Also, this is really for the first time visitors who are really interested! The whole city is squashed into a small area, especially the Old Town, so its entirely possible to split up for a few hours and do your own thing. So this is really just to give you an idea of what is possible, in case you see something you'd really like to do, we can. And if any locals can think of anything to add feel free! I should also add that my personal thing is historic architecture, so if anyone else feels the same, Ill talk and walk your socks off! wink

Check this out for more info
http://www.edinburgh.org/

Edinburgh Castle
The castle is probably the most famous attraction, sitting on top of its extinct volcano! The oldest part dates from the 12th century, and it houses the Scottish Crown Jewels, plenty of big guns and swords and the like. very cool for a history lesson nod

Palace of Holyroodhouse
AShamed to admit Ive never been, but always meant to wink The Queens official residence in Scotland, and probably most famous for Mary Queen of Scots and all her drama! A sight to behold from atop Calton Hill IMO.

National Galleries
Works by Old Masters, Impressionists and some Scottish artists here, in a Neo-Classical PLayfair building. Free entry too.

Museum of SCotland
Kinda self explanatory, worth a visit if youre into that sort of thing. Celebrated building too.

Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre
If youre into Whisky Scotland is obviously the place to be! Basically a big history lesson on the stuff.

Mercat ghost/history tours
Very popular, Ive been on a few of the less frightening versions myself wink these are a fun way to learn about the "horrible histories" behind a very old town. Theyre walking tours, and come in varied degrees of, well, terror! I know for a fact Zaara will volunteer to take you on as many as you like. I on the other hand, will wait outside confused

mary kings close
See above, but scarier. A network of underground streets that were blocked up during the Black Death, usually sealing most of the inhabitants in there as well! Lots of strange occurances. Try googling if interested. ALso the Vaults, which was only recently discovered. Basically the same I think.

grassmarket pubs
For those of you that are coming up on the Friday night myself and Zaara had thought we might take you out on the town, if thats your thing of course wink The Grassmarket is pretty much the centre of the action, with a really good Scottish atmosphere.

Harvey Nichols/Jenners/ and plenty other shops
For those who can afford it, Edinburgh has plenty going on! Harvey Nicks deals a roaring trade having been open for about 5 years ago, and theres also the oldest department store in the world, Jenners.

Royal Yacht Brittania
An insight into life onboard a Royal Yacht, now moored in Leith Docks.

Camera obscura
Again, never been but always meant to. Powerful telescopes give you a panoramic view of the city and beyond, and technology allows a 3d view of the city as it once was.

Scott Monument
On princes Street, this is a pretty impressive structure in itself, in memory of Sir Walter SCott. Even more impressive when you climb the thinnest spiral staircase youve ever seen to the top. View is well worth it if its a nice day.

Edinburgh Dungeon
Like the London one but not quite as good!

Rosslyn Chapel
Say no more for fans of the book! only about 30min bus ride out of the city.

Royal Botanic Gardens
Very very pretty for a wander and a picnic if its nice weather and we have time smile

Clan Tartan Centre
Find out your tartan! You get a certificate too.

Dynamic Earth
Again, never been, but a very popular science-ey attraction which takes you back in time to the big bang.

omg Wow even Im shocked confused So youre all coming to Scotland now right?! lol

So why the new thread? Lets beef this puppy up a little, due to Lolly’s current busy schedule I said I would help out a little so I ask you all please for suggestions for events and stuff to do. If you do not assist Uncle Predom will be taking you round the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Tate Modern. Although I am quite excited by the recent 24 hour drinking laws that might need to be thoroughly tested!!

Also let me know your feelings on costs. London is not a cheap city and many attractions and clubs are over 10 quid. Let me know what you would like to do either by org note or here and I will start to draft up an itinerary.

For starters - draft suggestion and layout.

Friday 24th
Meeting reception drinks and food in classic London Pub
Satuday 25th
Day events - The Tower of London, London Eye, Museums, Shops, Classic sights tour (Buck palace, Traf square, Pic Circ etc), Kew Gardens, Hampton Court Palace, blah blah blah
Evening events – Food then Pubs, clubs and discos?
Sunday 26th
Greenwich/Camden Markets, food and farewells

Seeming as Predom is exceptionally busy with his wife and new son i'm sure

can people please give me an idea what kind of things they would like to do pref in org note to start with using predoms itinery as a model.

what sight seeing would you like to do...

Predom has given a quiet a few ideas so which are you wanting to do....

tower of london is a good idea a wonderful walk through time

british libury is interesting as is the natural history museum we shall ensure we eat and drink in some of the well known london hot spots such as picadilly and leicester square.

SO HELP ME

i am relativly boring you see and shall have you all booking into historical tours and museums the whole time doing educational things unless someone stops me giggle

If u ask me, i'd like to see 'the other side' of London. Seen all the touristic places a few times already. Haven't been to Tate yet though.

Camden Town is the best, imo. Been there for a few times, hope it still has that great vibe, love to go again. cool
Love you till you're dead

Caesar and Pompey (c. 1605)
George Chapman

Sun 26 Feb 3pm

In this savage tragedy a drunkard and a whoremaster provide some comic albeit grim relief between the rack and the behaeading place. 'Divers times publiquely acted with great applause', the play questions true and false religion in a Roman setting but is also a thinly veiled critique of James Ist's foreign policy. Dorothea refuses to bow down to Jupiter. She frustrates torturers and freezes desire. Her martyrdom leads even her chief persecutor to turn to God.

This is on at the globe on the sunday...not shakespere but might be fun smile

Sounds like fun to me, but I'm going wherever you and Toni are that night, as I'm supposed to be riding w/ya'll back to Birmingham Sunday evening. If this works, I'd love it. I haven't been to the Globe. But if not, that's fine too.

Ok, I have regained Org composure and got my arse into gear to start to firm up some kind of itinerary. Don't be surprised if you get an orgnote soon asking you some rather personal details, this is not becasue we need them it's just becasue nobody has given us any suggestions - Unless Toni has all the answers (she has gone AWOL).

JUst to say do not pannic, stuff will be happening in London but don't blame me if it not to your taste, you had yer chances!
