I only just checked the Invasions and want to add some data that those of you who can deal with the flight cost but not the Hotel cost might dig.
Check out http://www.st-christophers.co.uk which is a kind of superior backpackers hostel chain in the UK and Amsterdam. They've got lots of places in London and one in Edinburgh, all of which I've visited since 2003.
Personally, I don't use hotels when I go places on holiday because I have to stay in them alone when I travel for work. In x years of staying hotels I've never had a decent conversation!! But in backpackers, you only have to say 'hello' to find your next friend.

So this is a promo for St Chris'.
It's run by backpackers FOR backpackers.
There are also private rooms but these aren't really worth it.

Anyway, I can't decide whether to Edinburgh or London (I'm in Amsterdam right now) but I hope 2 c yaz....
