I did a quick search and you can get a room for 239 dollars a night. If you share with someone (sag, maybe you and Llee?), that would be pretty reasonable.
It's not in a glamorous area, but it's not far from any subways that would take you to midtown or wherever. Plus I'm within walking distance! That would be cool! yeah, that was my whole thinking. Stay close to the trains, and it doesn't really matter where you stay. You want something clean and in a decent area. exactly

If y'all want HOtel reco's, I"m happy to help.
FOr example.... stay away from the Pennsylvania HOtel on 34th. I'ts across from Penn Station and I think is listed as 4 star or something.... but it's really sleazy..... well not sleazy... but just gross. and all these int'l folks go there and think they're in a great area..... but you really don't want to be there. there are so many options i feel bad when people who aren't from here pay a lot for something that is really not a good experience. there are cool boutique hotels and often you get better rates on weekends.

Hey y'all.
So the weird thing is, since I live here, I haven't actually stayed in a room myself in years!! But... talking to people.... I'd say the target price range should be no more than $200-250.... and you might be able to do even better, esp for weekend nights. Some hotels that are within this range (maybe even less on the weekends) that are nice and not gross (actually they are kinda chic): The Paramount (I've stayed there...very chic but rooms are small, but worth it) and in Midtown near Times Swqaure but not right "IN" Times Square The Morgan The Royalton (these 3 are Ian Schrager hotels....you can't go wrong with them) The Maritime (in Chelsea... hot neighborhood esp if you're gay but not also just hot in general for all types) The Metropolitan (not as familiar with this one but friend reco'd... on east side.... near Waldorf.. so not as touristy) If you ar onsidreing hotels feel free to ask me and I'll give my opinion or if I don't know the hotel I can tell you about the neighborhood. how far away and where is Atlantic City from New York? Atlantic City is like 2-3 hours away.....depending on how you get there. I've only been like 2 or 3 times. In fact, my avatar is from the 1st time in college when I drove down from Cornell Univ (which is like 5 hours away from my parents' house in NJ, and then another 2-3 to get to AC) in a blizzard to see Sheila E..which if course was worth it cuz I got to get onstage with her at the end and I got this cool picture . ANyway.... there are buses but those are usually for the "older" set who go down to gamble. I also went 2 years ago to see Mariah Carey and it was fun, but it was Miss America weekend which was a bit crazy. That time I drove from the city. Pesonally I don't gamble, and AC is kidna tacky and run down. There's a few giant casinos, but the town is kinda a slum. Also, bear in mind if y'all are coming in Feb/March it's gonig to be COLD so hanging out on the beach is not gong to be an option. A few other things to know. Renting a car in NYC is VERY Expensive. Like $80-100 a day, vs. 35-50 for every other city in the US. Also, most deals or specials you get from Hertz/Avis are not valid (you have to read the fine print). To find out about buses or trains visit: http://www.njtransit.com There are also other private buse companies that go down there too..... I'd check out http://www.coachusa.com [Edited 9/22/05 7:18am]

re: is AC worth going to.....
I don't think so.. but it's waht your'e into. WHere are y'all coming from? Other countries etc? I'd say there is so much other stuff around here to see rather than AC. It's kind of like a slumming it verison of Vegas..... no where near as built up. It had it's glory days but they are gone. If you're from the US and have already seen other stuff it's worth it.... but also it's boing to be winter so you can't really go to the beach. But if you are the type that loves casinos, there are some good ones and some new ones too (Borgata) but I'm not really into that. I went just to see Sheila in the 80s and Mariah last year... and then had fun seeing the kitchy boardwalk etc. which reminded me of my childhood.
