Prince tribute band 10th and 11th August in Reykjavik, Iceland Woo-hoo! Finally a tribute band playing in my hometown, Reykjavik. This is probably the first real Prince related event in Iceland since I became a fan in 2004. Anywho, here's the official announcement:
American actor and singer Seth Sharp (http://www.sethsharp.com) is playing a Prince tribute concert with his band, Black Clock, in Gaukur á stöng (local club). Doors open 10 pm. and according to Seth himself the set will feature "25+ songs from Prince's 25+ years of music". All further information on Seth's career as an actor, director and singer can be found on his website (see link above). I found a newspaper article about Seth on his website. In it he talks, among other things, about the time he met Prince during a party held when Prince reverted back to his old name. It's in Icelandic, however, but I can translate the interesting bits if anyone wants read it. Messed up the band's name-edit [Edited 8/10/05 19:28pm]

Here's the Prince-related part of the interview, translated by moi:
"We'll be doing songs from his whole carrer", says Seth Sharp, an actor and singer. He will be putting together a Prince tribute show in August, along with 6 other musicians. Seth says it requires a lot of preparation to practice singing and dancing to Prince songs. He should be prepared, though, since he has met the singer. What was that like? "He's a lot smaller than I thought. I went to a party he held when he reclaimed his name" Seth says, but Prince had to drop the artist name "Prince" in a certain period for copyright reasons, because Warner Brothers owned the name. "He's very well guarded. He had his own "walking lane" and he was surrounded with bodyguards. This is kind of odd because this wasn't a groupie-party. The guests vere exclusively celebrities, for instance Hugh Grant was there and Prince didn't talk to him or anyone else. He just stood there and served vegetables." He says Prince is a great innovator and that his music influenced American culture greatly. "He has taken sex, drugs and religion and thrown it into the faces of Americans. While others were singing about love, he sang about oral sex." [Edited 8/9/05 14:12pm]

My thought exactly. I thought maybe by clicking on this thread I'd get a little taste. You know what's cool, a couple of years ago, I had a film get into a festival there and they wanted to screen it in a church and I was like And then the whole organization folded and it never happened.

WOW! This was fucking awesome! The band was much tighter than I ever dared to expect and Seth is a very fine singer, and his range is very good... And his falsetto is excellent! I should be in bed by now but I wanted to post first the setlist: (note : this is written down from memory and it may not be 100% accurate)
Let's Go Crazy Head Beautiful Ones I Wanna Be Your Lover Still Would Stand All Time Sister Uptown When Doves Cry Raspberry Beret Darling Nikki Question of U Sexy MF Sometimes It Snows in April Musicology (20 minute break) Partyup Little Red Corvette Nothing Compares 2 U If I Was Your Girlfriend Gett Off Controversy Joy In Repetition/Come/Joy In Repetition (end) Dirty Mind (sung by the male backup singer) Kiss Purple Rain 1999 The band comprised of Seth, lead vocals; Steini, keyboards; I cant remember the names of the others but there was a drummer, bassist, guitarist, sax player, 2 backup singers, male and female, and a female dancer that had a very sexy routine with Seth onstage, she was especially sexy during Joy In Repetition when she kept looking to the crowd saying "Love me" OK, I guess it's time to go to bed.... P.S. There were some photographers there for a website featuring pictures from the nightlife, so I will hopefully post a link to some pics later....
