saturday 28th may is confirmed 4 definate with the venue www.yell.co.uk type in guest houses or bed and breakfast and have a look at the options in macdonald road, or pilrig street - both these streets r just off leith walk, both streets have a number of bnbs, particularly pilrig street has dozens i had a look at previous threads and found the following i had posted - Abbotsford Guest House 36 Pilrig Street Tel 0131 5542706 Fraoch House, 66 Pilrig Street 0131 5541353 the abbotsford is where abbie stayed the last time, i think it was £25 a nite, no ensuite bathroom tho, and they only take cash, but it's a nice enuff place, and fraoch was where ian (ex org moderator) stayed, i think £35 a nite. --- i also found the following info if ure stuck - and then here is some recommendations i sent ppl "i was looking at hotels. this is the closest, dunno how cheap tho Thistle Edinburgh Website St.James Centre, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH1 3SW Tel: 0131 556 0111 Classification: Hotels Situated in the heart of Scotland's capital, close to the many visitor attractions this international city has to offer Just off the world famous Princes Street. this is close 2 and new, dunno bout price either Express By Holiday Inn Edinburgh City Centre Website Picardy Place, Opposite Omni Centre/Playhouse Thea, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH1 3JT Tel: 0870 4009068 Classification: Hotels • Lowest Internet Prices. • Licensed Bar & Lounge Area. • Power Showers in all Rooms. • Sky TV & Pay Movies. • In Hotel Meeting Facilities. • Restaurant in Hotel or Nearby. this is a lil furtherr, new but i think its not bad priced and nice Apex International Hotel31-35, Grassmarket, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH1 2HS Tel: 0845 6083456 Classification: Hotels this isnt far either and i think its decently priced Jurys Inn Edinburgh43, Jeffery St, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH1 1DH Tel: 0131 200 3300 Classification: Hotels this is close 2 and i think it could turn out 2 b a good choice between price and closeby Hotel Ibis Edinburgh6, Hunter Square, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH1 1QW Tel: 0131 240 7000 -- the hotels will b more than the guest houses, but if u give them a phone u might get a deal. i suggest phoning a few of the places and get an idea of prices and how busy they r and then make a booking it would also b handy 2 others if u post where ure staying and how much it cost, and availability of rooms -- if u get a problem finding a place, let me know and i'll c if i can find somewhere

that would b a good idea, but 4 it 2 work we need 2 find a cheapish place. perhaps with ure charm u could find a place that would b interested in doing a deal if we can get so many ppl booked in folks can always book a guest house 2 b certain they have a place, and then when we know the numbers, u could call a couple of places and c if they will do a deal if we all move. as it's bank holiday weekend they may not b so interested as they might b busy anyway, but it's worth a try another thing, i know nothing about sport, so i dunno if there is football or rugby or anthing like that going on in town that might affect things

Keep the names coming in, we want this venue to ourselves. i don't think thats going 2 b a problem, zaraa got a few folk coming and she knows a couple of folk who know a few local fans, so she could bring at least a dozen folk. i've been chatting online 2 a few folk from downsouth who r seriously considering going, and we got the following names confirmed from here, most of which i would xpect 2 bring 1 or 2 ppl with them at least unique bal + mates zaara + a whole load of mates and mates of mates, at least a dozen or 2 camile + muirdo + mates prinssi number 23 + is he going 2 bring his mates, so could b a dozen or so there blackboab + ? daniel boon new girl i mentioned + mates, could b about a dozen or more jonny lawson bumpsquad + mates funkybrother metalorgange redfeathers + mates effs davehead lisap ? - r u coming then? how many u bringing? teacher - if she makes it once we get the flyers and posters around town we will generate more interest

Cammille, any word on folk looking for hotel rooms?
I have friends who work at The Roxburgh on the corner of George Street and Charlotte Square. It's posh and pricey, but we would be able to get a good deal for a group booking, especially if people are willing to share. A few of the staff will be coming on the night and the hotel would be ideal for an after party. I'll have a better idea about prices on Monday.

here is a cool poster from katt that will look good printed b/w and photocopied on a b/w normal copier
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
also from katt, this poster would look good either black and white, or would look good if u used a normal photocopier and just put in coloured paper, like the neon stuff, and the text will shine through this particular 1 might b a good 1 2 put inside dark venues
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
here is the original flyer, but in a much higher quality this can b resized easily in word or most other graphics packages so u can get 3 or 4 (or more) on an A4 sheet this is designed 4 printing b/w and copying on an b/w photocopier, and will look fine either on plain white paper, or sticking in different coloured paper will look a bit more interesting (ie. use purple or violet coloured paper)
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
actually this is the original flyer in higher quality, the above is an alternate design c the notes above. i would suggest sticking 2 each of the above designs on an A4 page and photocopying u could also even shrink the 2 posters down and print all 4 designs on 1 A4 sheet
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
here is the original design in purple this design would b great 4 use as avatars or in ppls signatures when u guys post online here, HQ and NPGMC, etc

ok cool. we r working on cheap hotel deals, but i suggest finding a guest house and booking it asap and then u can change at a later date if need b apparently the rugby is on the previous week, and the choosen week 4 the party isn't so busy in town, so finding a place shouldn't b 2 hard, but give us a shout if u need a hand

Book a hotel just in case. The Roxburgh is full the weekend before the party because of the rugby, and on weekends like that they charge £230 a room! However, that price gets halved on a quiet weekend, but I'll be able to get it much lower than that if people are willing to share. Just let me know numbers and I'll let you know the price on Monday.

So I'm looking for a guest house that's cheap and reasonably clean, I expect I'll share with Redbaby unless she brings her sister and/or friends. Gonna look into flights and that now.

Oh, I also need cos I'm a history geek, I'd love somebody to show me some sights like the castle. Cultural I know checkout the guesthouses i mentioned earlier. simply go 2 www.yell.co.uk and there r 3 search options, in 1 of them put guest houses, and in the other put in edinburgh. then look 4 the 1s in macdonald road or pilrig street (EH7 is the 1st part of the postcode), and try booking 1 of those. max cost per person would b £55, but u should get a lil cheaper. at least book something cuz u can change ure mind l8r the hotels cost a fair bit more, but if ure only staying a nite its not really worth it. most of the guesthouses mentioned cater 4 tourists, they must have some kinda agencey thhing going on cuz i'm always seeing coaches in those streets. if u wanna know around the place history wise i can sort u out cuz i work in that field. i'll c what literature and free passes i can come up with. as it's bank holiday weekend i'll b of from the friday 2 the monday inclusive

theres a few folk in the glasgow area coming, but i don't think many of them drive, and if they do they will b leaving the car behind cuz parking is a nightmare, plus they will b drinking the best option 2 get from glasgow airport 2 edinburgh is 2 get the airport bus from glasgow airport 2 glasgow queen street bus station, which is about 30-45 mins depending on traffice and the time of day, then swap buses at the bus station and get the edinburgh bus which will take about an hour and 15 mins, maybe quicker if at nite, thats about 2 hours but it can b about 90 mins normally. thats normally what i do if i'm getting a plane in glasgow 2 the states. it's quicker by train by about 20 mins, but then u got the hassle of going from the bus station round 2 the train station, or getting a taxi etc. the bus system is pretty good and reasonably cheap. u can get a return ticket all the way from glasgow airport 2 edinburgh city centre (st. andrews square), then from there u can either get a bus (an 11 takes u 2 pilrig street, or a few of them take u close 2 macdonald road), or get a taxi that will cost u £4/5 and take u 2 the door. i would suggest the taxi being in a new town on ure own
