Songs for my band to learn in a hurry - make 'em funky!

Our keyboard player quit last week and we have one practice before our next show. While I think that our lead guitarist (or myself) can handle most of the parts we still need to add some more songs to replace some that can't really be done anymore. What are some cool funky songs that we can cover without much of a problem? What are some simple rockin' songs (old or new) that we can cover to get the crowd going? We're gonna have to do the new Lenny song for sure now and probably "Ride" by the Vines - it's all guitar. Any suggestions?

Stones songs are easy, and, as an added bonus, you can play them like crap and people seem to appreciate your "authenticity".

Miss You - Am to Dm forever, except the 1-time turnaround that you do a second time to end the song.

Cant Always Get What You Want. Just so easy and people again, go batchit over. - and hey, for an added treat, keep the funky beat going on this one, and start singing the first few verses of "Comfortably Numb" - except you have to change the timing of the chorus into more of a change - "I have become, comtorblynumb" - triplet the "comftorbly" mumble.

Sympathy For the Devil. Again, people go nuts, get them singing the "hoo hoo" part and you on the world.

Get Down Tonight - just two verses, and two chords forever.

Nasty Girl - change lyrics to do ya think you're a nasty girl. Duh. Or, hell, be craaaaazy and keep the lyrics the same. Wow! you're off tha chain!

speaking of, Ball and Chain by Social Distortion. Three chords, and a singalong chorus that any drunk should know.

Lastly, to win the sympathy vote and to show you've got music cred, Tell Me Wha'd I Say, with the crowd-participation of "haay, oooh, hay, ho" etc, everyone can toast a song to Ray.

Hope this helps. These are my saving grace songs, when the night is going straight to hell.

"Keep Your Hands to Yourself" by the Georgia Satellites is a good crowd-pleasing rock song. You can solo on it as long as you want, and the crowd loves it when you make them sing "Don't hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself!"

Beck-Mixed Business(i think, song #3 off midnight vultures I think)

The Country Version of Gin and Juice is always fun and has always got a crowd going for me.

Another good one is to string together The Sweater song by Weezer, The Joker by Steve Miller band and then start rapping some Ice Ice baby between transitions and you've got a crowd pleaser,,,heheh

James Brown can be easy if you have some good players.

peace
