Open Labs

Hey any of u have used or witnessed a Open Lab product, like the OMX OpenStudio Digital Audio workstation? They're like computers, but just for recording.
I was interested in one.

eek, those are expensive! eek

I'd seriously consider either a laptop with good audio/midi add-on or a rack mounted PC + flat screen and invest the money I spare in a nice holiday...

Or of course even a regular PC suitable for use as a DAW if you don't need to take it on the road.

actually, I have a nive HP music media computer and all. I don't have a mixer for my mic or anything, but i think i don't have a good sound card though, i always get buzz or hiss, and i know that it may also be from plugs and such.

So i was also thinking on getting something like maybe the 896HD from www.motu.com

But i'm still hunting.

I also thought about something external like one of the big roland V-Studios, plus i could transfer data to computer if i need to, that way its also portable.

I don't have any experience with sound cards and knowing how to install and such, but i can say i'm good with computers, so it may be easy.
